WWE Smackdown Hitlist: Undertaker, Vickie Guerrero, Mick Foley, Michelle McCool, Shelton Benjamin, Vladimir Kozlov
May 17, 2008 - 01:03 PM

WWE Smackdown Hits:

Mick Foley: He said what everyone was thinking about the storyline involving WWE officials forcing Vickie Guerrero to wrestle to save her job. He sold Michelle McCool's heel hook in a way that made viewers take notice. And he mixed in some great comedy lines such as when he talked about McCool's students walking to and fro her classes with their text books strategically placed. Well done, Mick.

C.M. Punk vs. Chuck Palumbo: A good back and forth match with aggressive work from both wrestlers. I had to laugh when the cameras caught Palumbo telling Punk to pushing him into the corner, and I laughed even harder when they started the replay highlights right where Palumbo called the spot. Even so, this was an entertaining television match.

Vladimir Kozlov: The squash matches are getting over. Chris Shore mentioned in his review last night that he's not sure how Kozlov will do when he's asked to sell for his opponents. That's really the million dollar question right now, but I must admit that Vlad is more over than I thought he'd be.

Michell McCool: She's come a long way. Her natural athleticism is shining through and she's clearly a fast learner because she seems to get better with every match. Dare I say that she reminds me of a young Trish Stratus? Don't get me wrong, Michelle has a long way to go before she reaches that level, but she definitely has potential.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Overall show: Smackdown passed the time if you had nothing better to do. There were some okay matches and it's fun to listen to Foley early in his broadcast career, but nothing seemed to matter. The show was built around teases that Vickie Guerrero would be fired or forced to wrestle Undertaker in a singles match, and WWE didn't deliver in either case. Then the show shifted to being all about Vickie wrestling for the first time even though she had five male wrestlers on her team. I think Vickie is getting better in her role and this is not a knock on her, but any show that is built around Vickie's in-ring debut really doesn't have much to offer. This was the go-home episode with Judgment Day on Sunday. They should have been building toward Taker vs. Edge, but instead it felt like the entire show was geared more toward Taker getting his hands on Vickie.

Shelton Benjamin: His match against Matt Hardy was a big letdown. Shelton's offense was just plain boring and he dictated the bulk of the match until Hardy hit the Twist of Fate out of nowhere for the win. Foley nailed it when he said there's something missing with Shelton and questioned whether he has the drive to step up. Shelton can perform a big spot or take a big bump and get people talking, but he has failed repeatedly to deliver consistently good matches.

VOTE IN OUR LATEST POLL
Is the two-hour version of TNA Impact better than the old one-hour version of the show?
It's better. There's better character development and longer matches.
It's worse. The booking and non-wrestling segments are worse than ever.
No change. It's the same show only one hour longer.
