TNA Impact Hitlist: Kevin Nash, Samoa Joe, Scott Steiner, Sting, James Storm, Awesome Kong
By Jason Powell May 9, 2008 - 04:38 PM

TNA Impact Hits

Sting vs. James Storm: I'm giving the match a hit, but I'm not crazy about the way Storm continues to job to Sting. TNA had a chance to elevate him when he showed up at the end of the Live Impact and attacked Sting with a beer bottle. Rather, they've had him lose two Sting on multiple occasions and had him take the pin in the Lethal Lockdown match. Guys like Sting, Booker T, and Kurt Angle are willing to put over younger talent, but so far the only guy who has been put over in a meaningful way is Samoa Joe. That being said, both wrestlers worked hard and this was an entertaining brawl.

TNA Knockouts match: This was very well executed. There was always some type of excitement as the women took turns hitting their big spots. Granted, it wasn't a pure wrestling classic with great psychology, but it was a damn good women's match with more excitement than some of the similar matches the X Division wrestlers have staged.

Kevin Nash and Samoa Joe: I like the way they're slowly building toward Nash turning on Joe. The comments he sneaks in during interviews are setting things up to go in that direction, yet they're ambiguous enough that it leaves some mystery. Nash had a good match with Kurt Angle a while back, so I wouldn't be shocked if Nash and Joe eventually exceed the expectations of most fans once they finally have their match.

TNA Impact Misses

More confusion: It wasn't enough for TNA to book a battle royal that turns into a ladder match. They had to add a new wrinkle by having Gail Kim win immunity from the hair stipulation by having her win a barber's shears on a pole match. I think the idea that one of the women will have her head shaved is a nice pay-per-view tease, but TNA just goes overboard with these stipulations and gimmick matches within gimmick matches.

Scott Steiner: It's been nearly two months since Steiner announced that he was cashing in his Money in the Bank, er, whatever TNA calls it. They've had plenty of time to build him up and make him seem like a real threat to Samoa Joe's title. Unfortunately, they've done a better of job of getting over his silly lead pipe. Adding Little Petey Pump to the mix did more harm than good because it makes Steiner seem like he's a comedy act.

Deuces Wild tag tournament: Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I'd rather know what type of matches I'm going to see on a pay-per-view. TNA has announced only four matches for this show and only one tournament match thus far. Tournaments have enough mystery if they're booked right because you never know what matchups you might see in the second round. In this case, though, the only tournament match TNA is advertising is Sting and Storm vs. Team 3D. It's not a horrible match, but it's also not a match that people are going to buy the pay-per-view to see. I like Awesome Kong's involvement more than most people, so why not tell us who her partner is and which team they'll be facing in the first round? If TNA wants us to be excited, they should give us some idea what there is to be excited about.
