Powell Editorials
WWE Smackdown Hitlist: Batista, Chris Jericho, Undertaker, Big Show, Hornswoggle
By Jason Powell Apr 19, 2008 - 09:59 AM

WWE Smackdown Hits

Chris Jericho and Bastista on The Highlight Reel: I'm officially on board with the idea of Jericho playing the special referee for the Shawn Michaels vs. Batista match. This segment won me over. I was concerned last week that Jericho was going to aligned with Batista heading into the match, but this segment established that he has issues with both Michaels and Batista heading into Backlash. Jericho is awesome in his role as the troublemaker. He's been delivering some of the best mic work of his career.

Undertaker vs. Batista: As I mentioned last night in my live coverage report, this was not a particularly memorable television main event. It was mostly punching and kicking and the match never kicked into second gear. It wasn't a great match, but it was more entertaining that then average Smackdown main event simply because it packed some star power. Here's hoping the main event next week features better in-ring performances.

Big Show: Cool and confident. He comes across so much better than he did during his previous runs. I'm not looking forward to his match with Great Khali, but he's making the most of the situation.

WWE Smackdown Misses

Overall show: Yes, Big Show stood out and not everything was terrible, but this was a really boring show aside from the first and last segments. There wasn't a lot that stood out as major "Miss" material. Rather, it just felt like there was a lot of dull filler. The show started encouraging enough but it was mostly downhill from there. I was ready for a nap by the time the main event finally started.

Hornswoggle: Yes, I realize he's for kids, but how young are these kids? Perhaps the better question is what era are these kids from? Squirt guns and juggling? Is WWE going to break out the gumdrops and penny whistles next week? Maybe they can buy the affection of the children by having Hornswoggle give them nice shiny nickels.
