TNA Impact Hitlist: Sting, Booker, Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, Super Eric, Team 3D, Matt Morgan
By Jason Powell Apr 18, 2008 - 01:56 PM

TNA Impact Hits

Christian and Rhino vs. Team 3D: Plenty of action. Both teams worked hard and delivered an entertaining match. As I noted last night, though, I thought it was silly that Christian and Rhino came to the ring unscathed after being attacked by five wrestlers earlier in the show. The post-match pushing and shoving between Brother Ray and Devon didn't do much for me, but we'll see where it goes from here.

Eric Young and Kaz win the TNA Tag Titles (temporarily): I groaned when they won the titles, but I was pleasantly surprised by the creative bit about Super Eric's appearance technically counting as outside interference. This was a clever swerve and I didn't see it coming.

Petey Williams win the X Title: Here's your reward for letting us shave your head on television a few weeks ago. Although that was probably the motive behind the title change, Williams played his part well and for that reason I'm giving the segment a "Hit." That being said, I hate that the latest X Division title feud because it involves a wannabe Randy Savage and a Scott Steiner clone. Some TNA officials believe hardcore fans don't recognize the need for characters in wrestling. That's untrue in most cases. No one has ever stated that the X Division wrestlers should be bland performers who hit one meaningless high spot after another. I think most wrestling fans realize the importance of good characters and simply want TNA to create some actual characters for these performers rather than turn them into impressionists.

TNA Impact Misses

Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, and Scott Steiner: I really expected more from Joe's first promo as the TNA Champion. It didn't feel special in any way. I was also confused by Angle. After months of comedy skits, Angle had been playing it pretty straight for the last few weeks. This time around it felt like he was back to playing more of a comedy role. Much like his creative team in general, Angle needs to pick a direction and go with it.

Booker T vs. Sting setup: I get that Booker is pissed at Morgan for interfering in his match, but how does involve Sting? It felt like the angle was forced just so they could hotshot Booker vs. Sting. Plus, Booker mumbled the last line so I had no idea when the show ended as to whether they'd be wrestling each other next week.

Super Eric: The swerve was fun, but this character just isn't for me. It's just too over the top and corny. Plus, TNA just keeps telling the same joke with it over and over. If that's all the material they have for Eric's character, then it's time to pull the plug and move on. Unfortunately, TNA has a tendency to stick with characters and story lines long after they've overstayed their welcome.

Matt Morgan: Slow down, dude. It's not a race to see who can say the most words in the shortest amount of time. That promo style works for Jim Cornette because, well, he's Jim Cornette. It isn't working for Morgan, who was talking so fast when he started his promo that I wasn't even sure what he was saying. Morgan has the gift of gab but now he needs to learn how to slow down and use it properly.
