WWE Elimination Chamber Hits

Raw Elimination Chamber: I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I feel this was the stronger of the two Chamber matches and the highlight of the show. All six wrestlers were given moments to shine, and I especially enjoyed watching Ted DiBiase attacking Randy Orton, who was super over in his hometown. I wish I could say I liked the title change, but I was actually in favor of Sheamus retaining the title on this show and even at WrestleMania 26. I'm very curious to see how they follow up with Sheamus and how aggressively they attempt to keep him a major player now that he's lost the WWE Championship.

Smackdown Elimination Chamber: A quality match, but the dull middle portion of the card killed the live crowd and there was only so much these six wrestlers could do to wake up the fans. Of course, the highlight of the match was Shawn Michaels emerging from the steel grating and costing Undertaker the match. Speaking of Taker, it's amazing that he wasn't severely injured and his legend will only grow now that he was able to work this match despite being burned during his entrance. I was really happy to see Chris Jericho win the title even though most hardcore fans had already figured out that he was going to capture the World Hvt. Championship. WWE has a tendency to change plans when their finishes get out, but they stayed the course and WrestleMania will be a better show as a result.

Batista pins John Cena: I would have groaned if Cena had entered WrestleMania with the WWE Championship. Granted, I'll groan when/if he wins the title at WrestleMania too, but it was a fun surprise to see Batista capture the title even though I still don't think he and Cena need the title belt as much as Sheamus and his WrestleMania opponent do. As for the overall show, I can't give it a hit or a miss. It was somewhere in between.

WWE Elimination Chamber Misses

Both World Title change before WrestleMania: Fans who ordered this show are probably pleased with their purchase because it turned out to be a newsworthy show. However, I'm not a fan of both major titles changing hands right before WrestleMania. I assumed Jericho was going to win the title and was fine with that one because it set up two key matches (Jericho vs. Edge, Taker vs. HBK), but it's hard for me to get excited about Batista defending a title belt that he won just five weeks before WrestleMania.

The Miz vs. MVP: The match quality was fine and having Big Show and Mark Henry at ringside enhanced it. However, I was really turned off by WWE adding this match without advertising it for the second straight month. I also laughed at the logic that MVP earned the title match by pinning Miz in the non-title tag match that aired on Raw last week. I guess it makes sense, but wouldn't the logical move have been to give MVP and Henry a tag title match since they beat the champs in a non-title match?

Michelle McCool and Layla vs. Maryse and Gail Kim: The only way this makes sense is if Maryse was injured and couldn't work for some reason. I doubt anyone ordered this show to see the Divas Championship match simply because WWE has done such a lousy job with the Divas, but I really was looking forward to a singles match between Maryse and Gail. I couldn't care less about meaningless tag team Divas match or the issues between the Raw Divas and the Smackdown Divas. Let me guess, they're trying to set up the big "let's get all the Divas on the show" match for WrestleMania. Yawn.

Drew McIntyre vs. Kane: McIntyre looks the part, but he's just not drawing heat from the live crowds. Working with the tired Kane character probably didn't help matters in this case, but it's not like the fans have been reacting to McIntyre during his Smackdown matches either. By the way, the WWE wrestlers who jokingly wrote on their Twitter pages that McIntyre looks like a character from the Avatar movie are right.
