WWE Smackdown Hits
Matt Hardy vs. C.M. Punk: A good back and forth television match. Hardy and Punk did a nice job of making it look like either wrestler could have won the match, only Hardy came through in the end. I also liked their facial expressions afterward. Hardy looked back to the ring and said, "I got ya'," and then Punk shot him a look back that suggested he knew Hardy was right. Now if only these two could get some mic time and further establish their characters. Punk is especially bland right now.
MVP vs. Finlay: MVP can do no wrong in my eyes. I was worried that this match was going to be the typical Hornswoggle comedy match, but they got the kiddie stuff out of the way early and went on to have a really match filled with plenty of mat wrestling. MVP is ready for a run with the World Hvt. Championship. WWE needs to get behind MVP and push him as the top heel on one of the brands.
Batista vs. John Morrison: I didn't expect Morrison to get as much offense as he did. As much as I dig The Miz and Morrison act, it does seem odd that WWE just gave up on Morrison's as a singles wrestler following his run in ECW. By the way, the "Championship Chase" matches were better than most of the disappointing King of the Ring qualifiers.
WWE Smackdown Misses
Vickie Guerrero logic: If Vickie and Edge hate Taker enough to strip him of the World Hvt. Championship, then why in the world would her character give him an automatic entry into the title match at the Judgment Day pay-per-view? For that matter, why didn't she just overturn the WrestleMania finish?
Edge wins the battle royal: I dig the Edge character and he is arguably the best heel in the business right now. However, I wonder whether last night's angle made viewers want to see Edge get his ass kicked or made them feel upset that they invested two hours in Smackdown only to be swerved by Vickie and Edge again. I know it ticked off Dot Net Smackdown reviewers Rich Twilling and Chris Shore. That being said, nobody celebrates a cheap victory better than Edge. Hilarious. I also enjoyed the special effects with the title belt going up in flames at the end of the show.
Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero: I'm so bored with this feud. I was tired of watching C.M. Punk wrestle Chavo every week, and now I just roll my eyes whenever I see Kane or Chavo walk onto the stage because I know the other will follow. I guess it's one thing when they work together on the 15-man ECW roster, but there's no reason to continue their tired feud on Smackdown.
