WWE Raw Hitlist: Randy Orton vs. Batista, John Cena vs. David Otunga, The Miz vs. David Hart Smith, Bret Hart, Sheamus vs. Kofi Kingston, David Hasselhoff as guest host, Eve wins the Divas Championship

WWE Raw Hits

The Miz vs. David Hart Smith with Bret Hart: Good use of Hart. It was a pleasant surprise to see Bret on the show giving rub to the Hart Dynasty. It looks like he'll be back again next week given the stipulation that was attached to Miz beating Smith. Miz is on fire right now. His promos are instant classics. Meanwhile, Smith's promo was generic and showed that he still has a long way to go on the stick.

Evan Bourne vs. Carlito: It was nice to see Bourne get a rare win on Raw. The announcers spent most of the match talking about anything but the actual match, but they did a nice job of spotlighting Bourne's hot finisher. I was also encouraged to hear Carlito griping about his role in a backstage segment, but I lost interest quickly when I realized it was just a setup for Vladimir Kozlov to play a campy villain for the MacGruber cast that will be hosting the show next week.

John Cena vs. David Otunga: I am disappointed that they built up Otunga last week just to have him lost on NXT the next night and then get destroyed by Cena. However, Cena did a nice job of carrying Otunga to a basic match. I also enjoyed the skit backstage with Batista talking down to Otunga.

Sheamus and Kofi Kingston: The actual match with Kofi was weak until the final minute, but Sheamus delivers nicely whenever it's time for a beatdown angle. I was most impressed with the poise he showed on the mic. He's come a long way since his early promos on Raw last year, and he's well on his way toward becoming a major player in the company. Meanwhile, Kofi Kingston's mic work left something to be desired, but at least they protected him to some extent by not having him lose clean again.

Overall show: Just a minor hit this week. There was nothing particularly memorable about the show, but it built nicely toward the WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view and held my interest for the full two hours.

WWE Raw Misses

Randy Orton vs. Batista: Just a minor miss, but I felt underwhelmed by the match. I'm digging Orton's act as much as anything in WWE these days, but his performance on Monday left something to be desired. His backstage promo was really flat, and his main event match with Batista just didn't have that big match feel that I anticipated it would when it was announced earlier in the day. Sadly, nothing about this show made me excited about seeing Orton challenge Jack Swagger for the World Hvt. Championship at Extreme Rules.

David Hasselhoff: I had no idea that Hasselhoff had become a low budget William Shatner knockoff. He was so over the top and corny that it was painful to watch. Was it really a good idea for a true D-List celebrity to mock David Otunga referring to himself an A-Lister? By the way, KITT clearly needs to be sent to the scrap heap. The damn car was way off on the amount of time it took Cena to dispose of Otunga. I bet Herbie the Love Bug would have been closer. There's your dated reference of the week (the remake doesn't count).

Eve beats Maryse to win the Divas Championship: Another two-minute match only this time the title changed. Who cares? Clearly not WWE, who did nothing to make the title change feel significant throughout the remainder of the show. I'd like to care about the Divas division, but WWE creative clearly couldn't give a damn about them, so why should viewers? Sure, the Baywatch slow-mo stuff was campy fun, but that Divas Triple Threat match was just another example of a Divas throwaway match.
