WWE ONS Hits

Undertaker vs. Edge: A wild match with both men going all out in the main event role. Taker shocked me by taking some of the biggest bumps of his career during this match. Speaking of shocking, I did not see that finish coming. This will make viewers think twice when WWE teases a retirement, er, banishment angle in the future, assuming the Dead Man sits out long enough to sell the stipulation. I must say that I could have done without the sick chairshots that Undertaker took to the head. They were totally unnecessary, particularly with everything else they did during that match.

Batista vs. Shawn Michaels: It wasn't the best match on the show, but it was highly entertaining. I must admit that it did seem odd for Chris Jericho to come out and actually prevent Batista from crossing the finish line at one point during the match and not catch any heat from The Animal. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the action during this match and I absolutely loved the spot with Batista telling Michaels, "I don't love you and I'm not sorry." That was a brilliant play on HBK's final words to Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24.

Beth Phoenix vs. Melina: Granted, this was billed as an "I Quit" match and it was more like a submission match, but it was still very entertaining. I was pleasantly surprised to see Melina sneak in as much offense as she did because it's important that WWE build up more than the Glamazon and Mickie James. It would have been easy for TNA to stick with Gail Kim, ODB, and Awesome Kong, but they've done a very nice job of establishing several members women's division and I hope that WWE does the same.

WWE ONS Misses

Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga: A good brawl that led up to a cheesy finish. I'm not suggesting they should have asked Jeff and Umaga to legitimately perform those stunts off the top of an 18-wheeler. I would have been just fine with Hardy performing a basic low-risk move such as the Twist of Fate to win the match, so it's not like I wanted to see these guys take unnecessary risks. The problem I had with the finish was that it looked so corny to have the cameras miss both men landing only to show them both lying on the pavement afterward. It was an eye rolling moment that caused everyone over the age of nine to stop suspending their disbelief because it looked to unrealistic.

JBL vs. John Cena: Another campy finish that looked totally unrealistic. Cena wrapped the chain around JBL's neck and he was bleeding from the mouth within seconds. I can't say I've ever witnessed someone being legitimately choked out with a chain before so I guess I'm not qualified to say how long it would take a person to start bleeding from the mouth (any volunteers?), but this looked rushed and phony. Otherwise, the action in the match was solid and we finally got the type of brawl we've been waiting for JBL to deliver.
