The following predictions are made without any inside knowledge of the planned match finishes. In other words, I’m guessing just like you are. Check back on Sunday night for "Live Coverage" of the WWE Great American Bash pay-per-view. By the way, I recorded a Prowrestling.net "All Access" podcast on Friday with a preview of the Great American Bash, which you can listen to by clicking here.
Triple H vs. Edge for the WWE Title: Jim Ross has pegged this as the main event of the show. It makes sense if for no other reason than this is a WrestleMania worthy matchup. Unfortunately, the match is overshadowed by the Edge and Vickie Guerrero storyline. They worked Hunter into the mix nicely on Friday night, but the segment did nothing to put heat on Edge going into this match. Nevertheless, they are still two of the best in the business and this should be an entertaining match. Hunter retains.
C.M. Punk vs. Batista for the World Hvt. Title: This might not be the main event match, but it's certainly the most intriguing match on the show. I'm as curious to know whether they can produce a good match together as I am to find out which one will walk out with the title. Batista has had some very good matches lately but he's also worked with some great opponents. This is a real test for both men. It's just too soon to take the title off Punk. I'm not saying they won't, but it would disappoint me since there is still so much left to do with his character and his push. Batista doesn't need the title. Punk does. Punk retains.
Mark Henry vs. Tommy Dreamer for the ECW Title: Is anyone else getting tired of seeing ECW Title matches at the expense of guys like Jeff Hardy, MVP, Mr. Kennedy, Umaga, Evan Bourne, and others? Dreamer should get the big hometown pop. Henry will keep his title in what should be a real ECW style brawl thanks to Dreamer's involvement.
John Morrison and The Miz vs. Hornswoggle and Finlay vs. Jesse and Festus vs. Zach Ryder and Curt Hawkins in a four-way for the WWE Tag Titles: I'm thrilled to see Morrison and Miz on pay-per-view again this month. They earned the spot with that entertaining opener they had on last month's pay-per-view with Hornswoggle and Finlay. Will this be the month they drop the tag titles just to shake things up for a while? It could be, but I hope not. I'm picking Morrison and Miz.
John Cena vs. JBL in an NYC Street Fight: This will be the 10-15 minutes when the live crowd joins us in watching the show on television. They should be able to tape this in advance if they want to do more car stunts. The pre-tape possibility means there is a better chance this will be entertaining because they can always edit any rough spots. Cena wins since JBL tried to run him over.
Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho: I'm not telling you anything you don't already know regarding this match in terms of expectations. Both wrestlers have been having great matches no matter who they work with and they work especially well together. This match should be the best on the show, as only Hunter and Edge will really push them for that distinction. Lance Cade has stayed in the background thus far and I expect that to change in this match. Jericho wins thanks to Cade.
Matt Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin for the U.S. Title: A pleasant late addition to the pay-per-view lineup. Here's hoping both guys get enough time and the freedom to go out there and tear it up so that the company can't keep them off the next pay-per-view. Shelton won the non-title match, but Matt retains. Here's hoping this feud is extended somehow.
Michelle McCool vs. Natalya for the WWE Divas Title: I don't know what to expect in this one in terms of outcome or match quality. They can both work, but neither has been featured in a prominent singles match on pay-per-view. I'm guessing Natalya wins, but it could go either way.
