TNA Impact Hits
Booker T: The dressing room, the red smoking jacket, and the pipe were all tremendous. Booker was awesome backstage. This was so much better than the King Booker character. Booker played it perfectly this week and the character is money.
Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash: Good verbal exchange backstage with Joe mocking Nash's pre-match routine, and Nash coming back with a good response that put over his approach. Their in-ring exchange at the end of the show was also solid even if the spot where Joe accidentally kicked Nash was weak. The slow build continues.
Frank Trigg: His in-ring promo was solid for someone so new to the business. Trigg usually comes across well and this was no exception. One flaw in the presentation is that TNA never shows footage of him fighting. I follow MMA casually and I know Trigg's name, but I honestly can't recall his fights. If they can get footage of Matt Morgan's basketball career, they should be able to get footage of Trigg in UFC since they are on the same network.
Sonjay Dutt: Hilarious. I complained that his reaction to something lately was way too over the top, but the segment last night was an example of over the top done right. Very entertaining.
Awesome Kong: Another great segment. I felt bad for the "fan" she worked with this week because Kong was vicious with some of those shots at ringside. I also enjoyed the post-match angle with Taylor. The live crowd totally bought in and showed their approval by chanting for her.
TNA Impact Misses
Glass table attack on Christian Cage: The heels took forever to set up that table and perform their attack on Cage. They even celebrated afterward. It felt like it took forever before two babyfaces finally came out to help. Worse yet, the big glass table spot was forgotten throughout the show. Hell, Team 3D was backstage clowning around with Kurt Angle later in the show. They should have put that
Angelina Love video: Horrible. Why would they have her break character and then have Gail Kim refer to her as a "sweet" girl? And then Angelina made it seem like Gail as the heel by essentially portraying her as a bitch while they were training together. If Love's character is snotty, then she should be snotty about everything, including her past.
A.J. Styles: The guy comes across as being someone who is p-whipped and isn't even getting the, well, "p." He ran when Karen was outside and then he stands guard for her backstage. Just tell her to stay home! TNA has done such a nice job of building up Styles as a top babyface that it would be a shame if they blew it by having him look like he's more concerned with Karen than his career.
World X Cup: We know that Team TNA and Team Mexico are tied. We know the tournament or whatever the hell it's called concludes at the July pay-per-view. We know each win is worth a point. However, we don't know how many matches there will be. The only thing we do know is that the opening round matches don't seem very important and the wrestlers involved aren't presented as stars. Mike Tenay lists a bunch of foreign wrestlers and all the titles they've won while working for promotions the average fan couldn't care less about. I enjoy the matches, but the rushed presentation of the wrestlers and their history prevents fans from taking more of an interest in the tournament.
