TNA Destination X Hits
Sting vs. Kurt Angle: I'm still not sure how Sting winning shifts the balance of power in the Main Event Mafia feud given that he was champion going into the match and was still a MEM member the last time I checked. That said, the final minutes featured a great nearfall after Foley accidentally struck Sting with the chair, and the match didn't feature a bunch of Mafia interference. This wasn't a great pay-per-view main event, but my expectations were low coming into the show.
Ultimate X: The Suicide character doesn't do much for me, but I loved the finish and the way it played into his name via the suicide dive. This wasn't the most memorable Ultimate X match, but the finish was spectacular.
A.J. Styles vs. Booker T: This wasn't even a memorable match, but after sitting through nearly 90 minutes of lousy wrestling, this felt like a five-star classic. It was a decent match that stood out on a lousy pay-per-view.
TNA Destination X Misses
Overall show: The first-half of the show was awful. There's no need to order a replay of this show. Even if you want to see the Ultimate X match, I encourage you to save yourself some money by waiting for the DVD.
Samoa Joe: The knife has to go. Are we supposed to believe that Scott Steiner was beheaded last night? Worse yet, he intimidated female interviewer Lauren with the silly knife. The 90 second match was ridiculous, and everything that followed was embarrassingly bad.
A Night with ODB contest: Horrible. Enough said.
Team 3D vs. Beer Money: Jim Cornette saved the day by waving off the DQ and restarting the match because the fans deserve to see a winner, but he was nowhere to be found when the heels were intentionally counted out. I'm sure this was a setup for the Lockdown pay-per-view, but it made Cornette look like an idiot and served as another lazy copout finish on TNA pay-per-view.
The Governor: Who do they think this appeals to? The Knockouts Division is having enough problems without a Sarah Palin impersonator running around. Jay Lethal wants to be Macho Man. Consequences Creed apparently wants to be Apollo Creed. Shark Boy wants to be Stone Cold (at least he's funny). And Daffney wants to be Sarah Palin. Doesn't anyone in TNA just want to be a wrestler?
Matt Morgan vs. Abyss: They gave these guys 16 minutes on the last pay-per-view when Morgan was working with one arm and should not have even been in the ring. He's clearly healthier now, yet TNA limited their match last night to nine minutes. The match was uneventful and the thumbtacks don't mean as much as they once did.
Sheik Abdul Bashir: A lousy segment designed to show the world how patriotic TNA is. The U.S. soldier serving as the guest ring announcer is fine, but I could live without listening to the guy sing to the hated heel foreigner.
Awesome Kong vs. Sojourner Bolt: A lousy Knockouts Title match. This division has taken a major turn for the worse. Just imagine how much better it would be if they had taken they money they gave the Survivor chick (who wasn't even mentioned on the show) and gave it to Gail Kim.
