Pruett's Pause - WWE Raw: Alberto picks a champion to challenge, Raw Rumble, Edge vs. Miz in a champion vs. champion rematch, 2-21-11 vignette
Feb 1, 2011 - 01:40 PM

By Will Pruett, Dot Net contributor

Welcome again to what is my second Pruett's Pause. Today I'll be looking at the post-Royal Rumble edition of WWE Monday Night Raw which featured Edge and Miz facing off in a barely advertised rematch, Alberto Del Rio choosing his champion, a Tag Team Championship match and a Raw Rumble match. To see my thoughts about wrestling and more, follow me on twitter at twitter.com/itswilltime. Now on with the thoughts!

- WWE did the right thing by not making us wait for Alberto Del Rio's decision. This way Del Rio was not treading water for three weeks and we can start the rivalry with Edge early. It makes Elimination Chamber a little bit predictable, but I'll take that over killing Del Rio's momentum.

- I can't be the only person wondering if WWE would go back on their word before the Tag Team Championship match like they did last week.

- Is Husky Harris going to forget his name and become Windham Rotunda after that attack from Randy Orton? If he does, can we order a second punt for Michael McGillicutty?

- I liked the Ted DiBiase segment to set up Jerry Lawler's eventual Raw Rumble win and his quest for a match at Wrestlemania. Lawler is more over now than he has been at almost any other point in his 18 year WWE run (he may have been more over in 1993 or 1994, but not by much).

- As it came out this morning that the 02.21.11 vignettes coincided with the Fresno arena advertising the return of The Undertaker, I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. The vignettes are still awesome, but the similarity to the Sting videos made in the buildup to Starrcade 1997 did not seem to be coincidental. I'll accept an Undertaker return, but hope against hope that it is a red herring that leads to a confrontation with Sting.

- Did the cat-fight that Daniel Bryan could not break up actually last longer than his match against Tyson Kidd?

- WWE could have just as easily had John Cena cost The Miz a match against anyone other than Edge. They would not have cheapened the Champion vs. Champion gimmick by not promoting it and would have achieved the same effect that this match did.

- Was there a reason that the announcers were talking about everything but the Champion vs. Champion match happening in front of them?

- I was happy to see Vickie Guerrero show up on Raw and promote a never before seen World Heavyweight Championship defense on Smackdown. Sadly, she would be referring to the atrocious idea of Edge and Kelly Kelly vs. Dolph Ziggler and LayCool. Who would ever think this would draw viewers?

- I felt a distinct feeling of dread as I realized that Mark Henry will now be teaming with The Great Khali. Then I found out that it would be in a dance off. Just when I thought this segment couldn't get worse, we actually got Michael Cole dancing. This was a complete waste of time. It left me wondering if I had actually tuned in to a wrestling show tonight.

- John Morrison continued to amaze with dramatic near-eliminations tonight. He was the star of the Raw Rumble. Moments like this continue to leave me optimistic about his push.

- I sincerely hope that Jerry Lawler is taken off of the Raw commentary team for the build up to Elimination Chamber. At this point, he should be treated like a wrestler and not a commentator. Things can get back to normal when he is not in the main event of a pay-per-view.

That's all for me today folks! If you'd like to comment on anything I've said or interact with me and the rest of the Dot Net writers check out the Dot Net Member's forum. It's definitely one of the best perks of Dot Net membership. I'll be back soon with another Pruett's Pause.
