Twilling's Weekend Brief: Vince McMahon and John Cena prefer apologizing later, Kaval, Aloisia the scariest nanny ever? JR's hat, Dixie Carter on Vince Russo (not literally), explaining 900 episodes of Raw to a non-wrestling fan
Sep 4, 2010 - 04:09 PM

By Rich Twilling

-Vince McMahon told his roster to "step on people now and apologize later." John Cena stepped up. Could have been worse. What if Great Khali was the one? Heck, let's hope Lucky Cannon or Michael McGillicutty don't get the same opportunity.

-Speaking of McGillicutty, he is fundamentally sound, but even Michelle McCool thinks he lacks in the charisma department. He needs every advantage he can get and a name change to Joe Hennig would be a good start.

-Kaval won season two of NXT. While Alex Riley and Husky Harris have seemingly bright futures, Kaval was by far the most deserving. With his past, both positive and negative, it is great to see a great talent make good. Looking forward to see what is next for him.

-I'm curious to see what WWE does with 6'9" Diva Aloisia. I still hope she, despite being 'fired' by Vickie Guerrero, destroys everyone during NXT season three. Make her a woman's attraction like Andre the Giant was so many years ago.

-Imagine if Aloisia was your children's nanny. Wouldn't that scare the absolute crap out of them? Heck, I'd think twice if she was my massage therapist.

-Although we know Bret Hart cannot wrestle, how surreal was it to see him booked in a match with Undertaker in 2010? They say 'never say never' in wrestling, and it especially rings true with Bret.

-Who is 'They'? Not the TNA 'They,' but the 'They' in the previous entry where I said, "They say..." Who exactly are we talking about and what gives them the authority to say things we should believe?

-Speaking of Bret and Taker, Kane debuted in 1997 and feuded with Taker. Of course, Bret left the WWE at the Survivor Series that year. Amazing how things come full circle in professional wrestling, as Kane vs. Taker is "new" again.

-Steve Austin is the exception to a lot of rules, but could you imagine the ass whipping Jim Ross would put on someone if they tried to remove JR's hat from his head?

-Dixie Carter said Vince Russo is a "polarizing character." Fantastic, for someone in front of the camera. Call me crazy, but I want my head of creative to be, I don't know, really creative.

-I remember being excited about Paul Heyman and possibly Jim Ross going to TNA. Now, those seem like distant pipe dreams.

-Dixie does get people buzzing about TNA on her Twitter page. That's a positive. However, if the reveal disappoints, it will back the company up further than where they were.

-I personally don't have a problem with Wade Barrett's finisher. It would be nice if it had a name, but it's a perfectly acceptable finishing move. If he changed it, how does the Jackhammer sound? That could work for him. He had a fighting background, so maybe something involving multiple strikes or even a submission.

-Try explaining WWE Raw being the "longest running episodic weekly television series in history" to a non-wrestling person, because to that person, this could not possibly be true. It was almost as though it was a tragedy. "What about Gunsmoke?... What about Saturday Night Live?" How about shutting your mouth?

-Thought provoking question of the week: What was the best faction ever? The Four Horsemen? The NWO? Evolution? DX? Most people go with the Horsemen, but my friend Shawn Valentino made a great case for Evolution.

-Triple H was the leader and heel champion. Ric Flair was the legend who still had some life left in him. Randy Orton and Batista became main eventers, World Champions, and legit top guys.

-Judging a faction while it is current is a given, but it is also imperative to look back on a faction long after they have broken up, and looking at the success of Orton and Batista, Evolution could very well be the best.

-Another argument is watering down. Steve McMichael and Paul Roma were Horsemen, but there was only one version of Evolution. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Horsemen and I love heel stables in general, but don't sleep on Evolution in the 'best ever' argument.

-Please say it isn't so, Chris Jericho. I hope he doesn't move on, but I think that is what he is going to do. I loved his comment about being a star even he worked the opening match every night. It's true. Jericho is a main eventer even if he is not working main events.

-I wish John Cena would remember that and go out of his way to put people over. Cena can lose matches, be away from the actual main event, and still be a main eventer.

-Do you want the brand split to end? I don't. If not for the brand split, Edge, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Randy Orton, Sheamus, and Jack Swagger (and eventually, throw The Miz in there too) may not have ever become WWE or World Heavyweight Champion.

-Heck, Cena himself may not have ever become the top guy without the brand split. I'm sure that's an argument for ending the brand split, but you cannot unpop the popcorn. If it ended now, Cena would be everywhere.

-Jeff Hardy is only 33 years old. That is nuts. He was doing jobs in the WWF when the ropes were red, white, and blue.

-If there was a bidding war over you, wouldn't it make you glad that "a billionaire from Connecticut" was involved?

-Congratulations to Jeff Jarrett and Karen Angle on their marriage. If you listened to Dot Net Weekly, you know Rich Twilling is a "fan of love." You had to be there.

-Dear D'Angelo Dinero, Nice, um, backpedalling.

-Kevin Nash wants to keep wrestling. I liked Kevin back in the 90s, but I cannot imagine many people share this sentiment with him. I will say that he does look to be in the best shape he has been in a very long time, so I applaud him for being serious about it.

-Memo to WWE: Your pay-per-views are too expensive. That is all.

-Memo to Facebook users: Figure out the difference between "Your" and "You're." My favorite is someone telling someone else, "Your an idiot." Pot, meet kettle.

-James Toney fared about as expected in being defeated by Randy Couture. Boxers can definitely be successful in MMA, but like any other fighter, they have to have a well rounded repertoire and "running your mouth," isn't going to win you a lot of fights.

-College football starts this weekend and the NFL next week. For the six females that read this site, say goodbye to your men now. There may be one or two that still puts you first.
