UFC News: Brock Lesnar says he's back, will train this week, refers to Frank Mir as "a stalker," talks politics, full report on his press conference with UFC President Dana White
Jan 20, 2010 - 12:35 PM

The following are the highlights from the Brock Lesnar and Dana White conference call on Tuesday.

-White said Lesnar was only fighting at 60 percent of his potential for a year. Brock said his body couldn't get enough nutrients. "This stuff doesn't just come over night," he said. "I've had it for a while." Lesnar said his stomach essentially exploded and that's what put him in the hospital.

-Lesnar said doctors wanted to remove the bad part of his colon. He said he would have had a colostomy bag for six to eight weeks and then they would have had to put his colon back together in a second surgery. He said he probably would have retired if he had undergone that surgery.

-White said Shane Carwin and Frank Mir will fight for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Championship. He said that if something happens to the winner of that fight and he was unable to fight, Lesnar would face the winner of Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

-Lesnar praised the American doctors following his experience in Canada. "They couldn't do nothing for me," Lesnar said regarding the Canadian doctors. "It was like I was in a third world country." He added that he loves Canada and owns property there, but he would take medical treatment in the United States over Canada any day. He stressed again that he loves Canada and said he simply wasn't at the right medical facility.

-Brock credited his wife Rena Lesnar for saving his life by getting him out of the Canadian hospital. He said his wife drove 100 MPH to rush him to the hospital in North Dakota. He said he was in excruciating pain the entire drive. He said he called Dana and asked him to get a jet for him. He and White laughed.

-Lesnar said he laid in a hospital in Bismarck, N.D. for 11 days. He said he couldn't eat and had to be fed intravenously. He said he eventually went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. He said he lost 40 pounds during the ordeal. He said the thing that put him in this position was an all protein diet and a lack of fiber.

-Lesnar said the doctors told him he had a "winning lottery ticket" when they examined him on January 5. They said he didn't need surgery. He said he had another scan on Monday just to be on the safe side.

-Brock said he's returning to the gym on Thursday to begin training. "They heavyweight division is on their toes again because Brock Lesnar is back," Lesnar said.

-A caller asked whether Brock was just eating meat. Brock said he's a carnivore. He said he doesn't like PETA and is a member of the NRA. "I eat what I kill," Lesnar said.

-A Canadian media member asked where Lesnar was in Canada when he encountered the medical problems. Lesnar declined to say. He said he didn't agree with Barack Obama's medical plan and described himself as a conservative Republican. He said he was speaking out on behalf of American doctors. Lesnar said he doesn't blame the Canadian facility because they didn't have the right machinery.

-Brock said he was down to 248 lbs. He said he currently weighs 273 lbs. He joked that the last time he weighed 248 was when he was in second grade.

-Lesnar said the experience has changed his outlook on life. "I believe things happen for a reason," Lesnar said. He added that he felt like he needed to reevaluate and make some changes.

-A caller asked if he would be motivated to fight Mir for a third time. "Absolutely," Lesnar said. "I don't think I beat him as bad as I could." He said Mir is a stalker and that he would take care of him if they meet again.

-Brock said he has been back in the gym helping some of his fellow fighters. "I came back and I was throwing them around like sacks of potatoes," Lesnar said. He said that when he got the green light, he stopped looking back.

-Lesnar declined to comment on who he expected his next opponent will be. He mentioned the four possible opponents and said: "I'll guarantee you one thing, those guys are all shitting their pants right now."

-Brock said it was tough to keep information quiet. He said it pissed him off that his own camp was saying things they weren't authorized to say. Lesnar said it made him want to get rid of those people. "We've got something to say today, which is Brock Lesnar is back, he'll be back in the octagon, and I'm feeling 100 percent."

-The final caller pointed out that Lesnar was originally misdiagnosed with mono in the United States. Brock blamed himself. He said they wanted to do a CT scan, but he didn't want them to do it. "That's my fault," Lesnar said. He added that he did test positive for mono, but he wasn't sure where he acquired it. "I'm not bashing the Canadian healthcare," Lesnar said. He said it doesn't matter where he was, he wanted to get back to his homeland for his healthcare. He stressed that he doesn't want healthcare reform. "I'm not a believer in socialism and I don't agree with what's going on," Lesnar said.

-The caller brought up that low-level fighters have a hard time getting insurance. He asked how Brock acquired insurance. "I'm an independent contractor," Brock said. He said there needs to be restructuring of the healthcare system, but not socialism.

-White wrapped up the conference call.
