UFC 168 PPV Fights

1. Dustin Poirier beat Diego Brandao via knockout at 4:54 of round one. Poirier won with a late flurry of punches. The referee gave Brandao a chance to stay in it, but he eventually had to step in and stop the fight.

2. Jim Miller defeated Fabricio Camoes via submission at 3:43 of round one. Miller applied a kimura, forcing Camoes to tap out. Joe Rogan noted that he wasn't able to get the arm fully extended, yet was still able to get the submission win.

The Michael Johnson win over Gleison Tibau fight was replayed to fill time.

3. Travis Browne beat Josh Barnett by knockout in 1:00 of round one. Browne caught Barnett with a knee that dropped him to his knees. Browne fired off a series of brutal elbow blows to the side of Barnett's head until the referee stepped in. Barnett was bloodied and out. Very impressive win for Browne.

After the fight, Browne mocked the idea that he was merely a striker. He said he's an MMA fighter. He said the fight wasn't for "the rich dudes up next to the cage." He said it was for the blue collar fans further back.

Mike Tyson was among the celebrities in the crowd. They replayed the Uriah Hall vs. Chris Leben fight to fill time.

4. Ronda Rousey defeated Miesha Tate via submission at 0:58 of round three to retain the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship. Tate landed a few good punches while they were standing up, but Rousey took her down several times and was way ahead on the strikes landed count at one point in the round. Tate's nose was bloodied. Tate became the first woman to survive one round with Rousey.

Tate came out smiling to start round two. She landed a few more blows, but Rousey once again took her down aggressively. The pace slowed with Rousey leaning against Tate, whose back was to the cage. Rousey eventually took her down again. Rousey nearly had the armbar, but Tate prevented her from locking it completely in, so Rousey released the hold and threw more punches to the side of Tate's head. Rousey managed to apply a triangle with roughly 40 second left in the round. Rousey threw punches to Tate's side, but Tate survived the round again. Two great rounds.

Rousey took Tate down early in round three. They jockeyed for position and Rousey caught her in the armbar and got the submission win. Tate offered her hand to Rousey after the fight, but Rousey walked away, which drew plenty of boos from the crowd. Rousey received plenty of boos again when she was named the winner.

Rousey said afterward that she felt Tate disrespected her family so she wouldn't shake her hand. She said the boos don't bother her. Joe Rogan then interviewed Tate, who was cheered. Tate said Rousey worked on her right hand and said Rousey was the better fighter on this night. Great fight. Rousey fights remains a huge draw even if the majority of the fans dislike her.

Hey, Holder (a/k/a Joel Kinnaman) from "The Killing" was shown in the crowd. Nice.

5. Chris Weidman defeated Anderson Silva to retain the UFC Middleweight Championship by TKO in round two. Silva was knocked down early and took several blows to the head, but the referee did not intervene. Silva held onto the back of Weidman's head. Weidman broke free and landed more shots. Silva managed to throw a few fists back and never seemed out of it. Despite dominating the round, Weidman came away bleeding from the nose.

Silva landed a nice kick to the thigh early in round two. He threw another kick to the chin of Weidman and ended up snapping his own leg in the process. Weidman immediately celebrated the win, but then calmed down quickly and had a more subdued celebration. Silva grabbed his leg and yelled in pain. The replayed showed Silva's leg flop upon making contact. Rogan noted that it may have been the end of Silva's career due to what it would take to come back from such a gruesome injury.

After the fight, Weidman said Silva is still the greatest of all time and he wishes him the best going forward. Silva was taken out on a stretcher while Weidman continued his interview. The injury was absolutely unreal and Rogan said it was only the second time in UFC history that something like that has happened. It was a depressing end to an otherwise great pay-per-view event highlighted by the women's fight.
