UFC fighter Chael Sonnen on Vince McMahon stopping C.M. Punk from escorting him to the Octagon
Jan 26, 2012 - 10:02 AM

UFC fighter Chael Sonnen spoke with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com about his fight against Michael Bisping. He was asked to explain why WWE Chairman Vince McMahon blocked C.M. Punk from escorting him to the Octagon on Saturday.

"I'm disappointed too," Sonnen said. "I was looking forward to that. I think that would have been a lot of fun, especially here in Chicago. Vince has his reasons. He's very good at his business and his job, and I understand." Sonnen noted that he's friends with Punk and he believes there's major crossover between MMA and pro wrestling.

Powell's POV: The assumption of WWE sources is that Vince pulled Punk from the show due to event airing on FOX when WWE has a partnership with NBC Universal. Even if you're not an MMA fan, I highly recommend watching the Sonnen interview, as his mic work is inspired by pro wrestling, and he's so good that a lot of pro wrestlers could actually learn from him.
