UFC on FX: Guillard vs. Miller
Aired 1/20/12 on FX from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
1. Pat "HD" Barry (6-4) vs. Christian Morecraft (7-2) [Heavyweight Division]
Round One: Morecraft scored several takedowns early in the round, and he had Barry's back twice. However, Barry's submission defense was solid and he caught Morecraft with a left cross late in the round. Barry pounce don’t he fallen Morecraft and rained shots until the referee pulled him off.
Official Decision: Winner by KO at 3:38 of the very first round, Pat Barry.
Ryan's Rant: Great opening fight between Barry and Morecraft. Morecraft showed a great proficiency in his takedown game, but Barry was ready for this fight.
2. Mike "The Hulk" Easton (11-1) vs. Jared Papazian (14-6, 1 NC) [Bantamweight Division]
Round One: 10-9 Easton. The two clinched to start, and Easton quickly gained the upper hand. Easton controlled where the fight went and landed the majority of strikes in the round.
Round Two: 10-9 Easton. Rinse and repeat from the first round, though the striking exchanges were less one sided than before. Easton is still controlling the octagon, and he managed to both score a takedown and stuff one from Papazian.
Round Three: 10-9 Papazian. Papazian found his range in this round and he landed a high volume of strikes in tight combinations. Papazian controlled where the first went for the first time.
Official Decision: 29-28, 30-27, 29-29 for the winner by majority decision, Mike Easton
Ryan's Rant: Fun fight from a technical perspective, and Easton and Papazian had flurries of excitement, but a lot of that fight was spent on the cage. The two men left it all out there, and they were both spent by the time the final horn blew.
3.Duane "Bang" Ludwig (29-11) vs. Josh "The Dentist" Neer (32-10-1) [Welterweight Division]
Round One: Neer scored a single-leg takedown about halfway through the round. Ludwig tried to fight back to his feet several times, but Neer caught him in a guillotine and Ludwig went to sleep.
Official Decision: Winner by submission at 3:04 of the very first round, Josh Neer.
Ryan's Rant: Another entertaining fight. Neer locked the guillotine in quickly and Ludwig passed out before he even had a chance to tap.
4. Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard (46-10-3, 1 NC) vs. Jim Miller (20-3) [Division]
Round One: Guillard opened with a flurry of strikes and kicks, but Miller was able to stuff a flying knee and transition it into a takedown. Miller then set up for an arm triangle choke, and when Guillard battled out of that Miller locked in a rear naked choke. Guillard was forced to tap.
Official Decision: Winner by submission at 2:04 of the very first round, Jim Miller
Ryan's Rant: Very exciting and entertaining fight. Guillard was in top form and threw a few flashy kicks and high knees, and Miller displayed his great ground game and submission skill.
Overall Show: Very good first Fight Night on FX; three very decisive finishes and a three round war that didn't turn into a blood fest. UFC has to be thrilled with the results.
