UFC 120 on Spike TV
Taped in London, England
1. Alexander Gustaffson defeated Cyrille Diabate by submission in a Light Heavyweight fight at 2:41 of the second round. Gustaffson won round one, dropping Diabate several times—including once where he knocked his mouth guard out. The second round was more of the same with Gustaffson locking in a rear naked choke three times. A bleeding Diabate finally tapped after the third choke hold.
2. Cheick Kongo fought Travis Browne to a unanimous draw in a Heavyweight fight. Round one was very close with Browne slightly getting the better of Kongo towards the end. Round two saw Kongo do damage to Browne with lots of knees to the thigh. Browne scored a takedown just as the round ended. Round three saw Kongo be the more aggressive of the two, but too aggressive. Kongo had a point taken away for grabbing Browne’s shorts. Kongo won the round, but the point cost him the match. All three judges scored the fight 28-28.
3. Mike Pyle defeated John Hathaway by unanimous decision in a Welterweight fight. Round one went to Pyle as he was able to do what he wanted the whole round and Hathaway spent his whole time trying to counter. The second round saw Pyle mount Hathaway with about two minutes left and unload on him for the final two minutes. Somehow, Hathaway managed to stay alive. Round three saw Hathaway try to go after Pyle early, but Pyle not only held him off, but continued to control Hathaway and won the round. All three judges scored the fight 30-27.
4. Paul Sass defeated Mark Holst by submission in a Preliminary fight at 4:45 of the first round. Sass pulled guard early and almost locked on a triangle choke. The rest of the fight was more of the same with Sass pulling guard and working the mat. He finally locked in the triangle choke for the win.
5. Carlos Condit defeated Dan Hardy by knockout in a Welterweight fight at 4:27 of the first round. Hardy was the fan favorite by far and the early part of the round saw both men working kicks to the thighs. Condit hit a spinning back elbow, but Hardy came back with a solid left hook. Both men exchanged punches and kicks. Hardy hit several solid left hooks, but Condit knocked him down with a huge punch and then landed two more on the ground to score the KO win. Post-match, Joe Rogan asked Hardy what happened. He said, “I got punched in the face.” Yes he did.
6. Michael Bisping defeated Yoshihiro Akiyama by unanimous decision in a Middleweight fight. Akiyama blasted Bisping with a hard right very early, but Bisping recovered and landed several right hands to win round one. The second round started with another right from Akiyama, though not as brutal as the first. Bisping controlled most of the second round, though Akiyama did hit another solid right and several hard punches to close the round. Bisping managed to avoid the early right in round three. He hurt Akiyama with a few blows, and then really hurt him with a low blow. The ref gave Akiyama time to recover while Bisping apologized in the center of the ring. After the fight resumed, Bisping continued picking Akiyama apart to win the round. All three judges scored the fight 30-27.
