A bill to legalize mixed marital arts in New York will not reach the floor for a vote in 2012. "It will not come to the floor this year," Speaker Shelton Silver told the New York Daily News. He added that the bill did not have enough votes to pass. "I think it’s evolving,” Silver continued. "I don’t think two years ago it was a 50-50 proposition." Powell's POV: The story quotes a source who noted that the opposition seems to come from aging lawmakers. Of course, there are the usual complaints that it's a barbaric sport from some politicians. I'm surprised this is still an issue in New York, but it appears UFC will have to wait at least another year to run its first show in the state.
