Former WWE and TNA star, and current Strikeforce fighter Bobby Lashley spoke to Fightline.com about a number of topics, including his current status with TNA Wrestling, if he sees himself as a top MMA fighter, and the gym he recently opened.
Lashley on his status with TNA: "As far as I know, I'm not working with them. At the time things started getting really built up with fighting and signing with Strikeforce and everything, it was just kind of hard doing both at the same time. We tried to work something, but I guess it didn't work. So as far as I know, I'm on the future endeavored lists (laughs)."
Twill's Two Cents: He still doesn't know for sure? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say he is done with TNA for now. You're welcome Bobby.
Lashley on whether he sees himself as MMA Championship material: "... the heavyweight division is wide open so I think it's going to be very exciting to see all these heavyweights mix it up a little bit. I think in Strikeforce right now there are four or five people right now that can be the champion, so I think it's going to be really exciting for the fans... I think I'm six months to a year out of being in a top spot.
Twill's Two Cents: His confidence is a lofty goal and he doesn't have the raw ability that Brock Lesnar showed early, but Lashley seems to have the correct mindset to get himself into a top spot.
Lashley on opening his new gym: "It was great. It was a lot better than we had even expected. We had started planning it about 3 weeks before we wanted to do it so it was a little rushed, but the outcome was incredible."
Twill's Two Cents: From experience, I can speak to the fact that most everyone involved in MMA wants to open his or her own gym. Congratulations to Lashley.
