Hulkamania Tour
Sydney, Australia at ACER Arena
Report by Dot Net reader Glenn Donaldson
Saturday November 28 saw history as the Hulkamania Tour came to Acer Arena at the Olympic Stadium Sydney. Nine years ago saw Cathy Freeman light the Olympic flame and today the flame of Hulk Hogan and his hand picked legends graced for the first time with the Hulkamania tour.
Although much media hype surrounded the immortals unfortunately the realization of the fact that although once the pinnacle of sports entertainment in the '80s and '90s only the true Hulkamanics were present with 7,000 turning up for the spectacle. However the show must go on.
1. Pimp Father defeated Val Venise. The beginning saw the commentator introduce the inexperienced ring announcer call the first match. Val Venise entered the squared circle in his trade mark towel and the cheesy smile "hello ladies" following the dis-towling Pimp Father walked down the isle promoting the agreed fact that the Aussie whores are ranked amount the worlds best. The match although relatively quick the godfather won during a strong clothes line with the referee making the three count.
2. The Nasty Boys (w/Jimmy Hart) fought Rock of Love to a double countout. The Nasty Boys were met halfway down the isle before the bell rang and were taken down boy the Rock of Love. Before the nasty boys reached the ring the referee deemed the pairing as both being disqualified due to a double countout. An extremely weird event however they later came back with a hardcore match, which Jimmy Hart begged for.
3. Heidenreich beats Nick Dinsmore. U-Gene, who wrestles by his given name Nick Dinsmore, fought and lost to a very fit looking Heidennreich. Despite Heidenreich's stiffness in the ring, he certainly relaxed and entertained the crowd.
4. The Nasty Boys defeated Rock of Love in a Street Fight.
5. Black Pearl and Vampire Warrior defeated Junior Fatu and Brian Christopher.
6. Brutus Beefcake defeated Orlando Jordan. Beefcake won with his trademark sleeper and then gave Jordan a free hairstyling.
7. Matt Cross beat Shannon Moore in a Ladder Match for AU$25000. Arguably one of the highlight matches of the night. A 10 minute match that saw everything from major aerials to tough hard knocks with Spartan knocking out Moore and then climbing his way to 25 grand
8. Uso Fatu (Umaga) defeated Mr Ken Anderson. Another highlight was the return of Umaga and Mr Kenn...Anderson. The match could have gone either way, but Umaga at the end was too dynamic and came away with the win.
Ric Flair made his way down the isle and was accompanied by Lacey Von Erich. Ric wore the same robe he wore against HBK in his final WWE match. Following some crowd pleasing poses, all eyes turned to the the entrance bay as the immortal Hulk Hogan made his Sydney debut to a standing ovation.
9. Hulk Hogan defeated Ric Flair (w/Lacey Von Erich). As the match began, it was great to be reminded of the old days where I felt in love with the sport. Naturally, Hulk won the bout. Flair certainly showed why he is classed as one of the best of all time. Lacey was stripped to her undies during the match by grand daddy Jimmy Hart, which was certainly a highlight of the night. Her assets were something to behold.
Notes: As good it was to relive my youth, the truth is that most people under the age of 15 probably doesn't know the impact Hulk made to WWE and the wresting world. The atmosphere lacked, yet the crowd was receptive as much as possible. The first step would be to change ring announces as the young fellow who had the role had no chemistry nor talent to be on a big stage introducing big names. We are hoping Hulk will be back to the land down under.
