Court rules that Hustler had no right to publish nude photos of Nancy Benoit
Jun 25, 2009 - 04:45 PM |
The U.S. Court of Appeals reversed a 2008 decision by ruling that Hustler had no right to publish nude photographs of Nancy Benoit after her death. "The photographs by themselves serve no legitimate purpose of disseminating news … and needlessly expose aspects of the plaintiff’s private life to the public,” the appeals court wrote, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
“Indeed, people are nude every day and the news media does not typically find the occurrence worth reporting.” To read the full story, visit AJC.com.
Powell's POV: Good for Nancy's family. The photos were taken in 1983 when Nancy was an aspiring model and an actress. Clearly, Hustler was attempting to capitalize on the Benoit family tragedy.
