Dragon Gate USA signs a pay-per-view deal, first show name and month revealed
Jun 17, 2009 - 11:27 AM |
Dragon Gate USA issued a press release to announce that they have signed a pay-per-view deal that will put the show on In Demand, Bell TV, and Viewer's Choice. The company signed with G-Funk Sports and Entertainment, which had been handling the Ring of Honor pay-per-views.
The first show will be called "Enter the Dragon" and will be taped on July 25 in Philadelphia, Pa. The show will air on pay-per-view in September. To read the full press release, visit DGUSA.tv.
Powell's POV: It's very cool that the first show in Dragon Gate USA history will air on pay-per-view. It appears they have a deal similar to the one Ring of Honor had, as the plan is to air pay-per-view events every other month. Unfortunately, there is no mention of DirecTV in the press release, but perhaps that deal is still being negotiated. This is a bold move by the company given that Dragon Gate doesn't have the name recognition in North America that ROH had when they debuted on pay-per-view.
