WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart says "The Wrestler" was great, but felt it made viewers lose respect for pro wrestling
Apr 23, 2009 - 03:20 PM

Bret Hart told Christopher Smith of the Mirror's Ringside blog that he enjoyed The Wrestler, yet also felt it was tough on pro wrestling. "I thought it was a great movie, very well acted, very well directed, but I think it really slogged wrestling," Hart said.

"It really took it back to where it wouldn't make you proud if your kid came up to you and said, 'Dad I want to be a Wrestler.' That movie would make someone go: 'I'd rather you do anything, I'd rather you be a porno star than a pro wrestler.' I don't think wrestling gets a fair shake that way. When it finished you didn't have any respect for wrestling." To watch the full interview, visit Mirror.co.

Powell's POV: I came away from the movie feeling as though it was one man's journey rather than a synopsis of the entire pro wrestling industry. Sure, there were other wrestlers who were down on their luck, but Ernest Miller's character had a successful life after pro wrestling, even if there are some carny-like elements to running a car lot. By the way, Hart also discusses his legendary Wembley Stadium match against Davey Boy Smith and more in the 30-minute interview.
