Former Four Horseman member claims he was promised an NFL coaching job
Jan 6, 2009 - 09:31 PM |
Steve "Mongo" McMichael told the Chicago Tribune that new 49ers head coach and former Bears teammate Mike Singletary promised him a defensive line coaching gig. "Mike told me that if he ever became a head coach, I would be his defensive line coach,” McMichael said. “He knows how much time I spent in the film room and that I knew how that translates to the field. We were family. We always think of each other as family, and we’re willing to help.”
Mongo lightened up and said he'd accept a lesser position. "Maybe they should just call us (he and Richard Dent) consultants so each defensive lineman could have us as a mentor,” McMichael said with a laugh. “If those kids out there listen to [Singletary] about how to come out of the locker room ready for a football game, they will become better players. That’s the beginning of winning right there.” To read the full story, visit ChicagoTribune.com.
Powell's POV: I asked a buddy years ago to come to my house and shoot me if I stopped partying every weekend and got into a serious relationship. I get a little nervous when the doorbell rings sometimes, but so far so good. I guess what I'm trying to say is that friends say stupid things sometimes and I hope McMichael doesn't get ticked if Singletary doesn't follow through on this "promise."
