New review of "The Wrestler" describes it as a look at the "seedy underbelly" of the wrestling industry
Dec 1, 2008 - 10:37 AM |
AinItCool.com predicts that The Wrestler won't play to everyone, but the critic "thoroughly loved" the film. "In The Wrestler, Darren Aronofsky does for professional wrestling what he did for drugs in Requiem for a Dream," writes the reviewer. "This isn’t the pretty, glitzy, fun version of the story. It is the seedy underbelly, the horror story, the nightmare.
"He is going to make you fall in love with Randy only to break your heart as you watch him destroy himself. This is not a feel good movie." To read the full review, visit AintItCool.com. [Thanks to Dot Net reader Zachary Heath]
Powell's POV: The movie opens on Dec. 17 nationally, so expect to hear plenty about it this month. I'm looking forward to seeing the film when it opens in my area, and readers who see it are welcome to pass along a paragraph or two of thoughts to dotnetjason@gmail.com for a possible mailbag feature.
