Former AWA wrestler Rick Renslow dies, Mick Karch shares a fun memory
Sep 5, 2008 - 09:02 PM

Former AWA wrestler Rick Renslow died on Thursday at age 53 after a battle with cancer. You can view his obituary at StarTribune.com.

Former AWA and longtime indy announcer Mick Karch wrote the following regarding Renslow: "A couple years ago, Rick and I cut a promo for Steel Domain TV. We actually cut the spot in Kenny Jay's backyard, out on his patio! Ed Hellier shot the promo with a small video camera, but he did not bring the microphone, so we were using the mic attached to the camera itself.

"I told Ed I felt kind of odd standing there without a hand held mic, so Ed says, 'grab anything!' I picked up a garden hose and held it in front of me and started talking into it while Ed rolled video! I would speak into the garden hose and then hold it in front of Rick when he was talking. The greatest part of this was at the end of the promo, Rick says something to the effect of 'gimme that thing,' grabs it out of my hand and proceeds to wrap up the promo ranting and raving into the garden hose." [Thanks to Ed Hellier]

Powell's POV: I watched many Renslow matches on AWA television over the years. RIP.

Are you more likely to watch WWE Smackdown because Vince McMahon is advertised?
Yes. Big things tend to happen when Vince is on the show.
No. Advertising Vince won't change my viewing habits.
