Gabe Sapolsky on Evolve being the final pro wrestling event at ECW Arena, why Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet is a fitting final match at the ECW Arena
Jan 11, 2012 - 11:23 AM |
Gabe Sapolsky interview (starts 25 minutes into the show)
Host: Jerome Cusson
Available at PWPonderings.com.
On ECW and nostalgia: "I'm feeling more and more of it every day... I've recently started writing some of it on my Facebook page... I missed one show for ECW in the entire history of the company. In January of 1994 I was actually up in Boston and back home...it was Terry Funk vs. Shane Douglas 45-minute time limit. It was the last show I missed there... I've been there for MLW...a whole bunch of CZW shows, and whole bunch of CHIKARA shows...DGUSA obviously ran its first show there and I guess ROH has worked in there too. Everywhere I look there is a memory."
On what EVOLVE will do being the last show at the historic ECW Arena: "To have fallen into being the last show there and everything that has taken place there, you definitely don't want to go out with a dud you want to do something really really special there to fit the legacy and that is what we're going to do on the 14th for the EVOLVE show. For the final segment of the show, we definitely have some names we'll be bringing in from the building's past. We're going to have a really good segment. It might get a little wild, but we will have a good segment."
What makes Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet for the Freedom Gate Title a fitting ending match: "It's the last official match in that building and there will be some action and things will get chaotic with that final segment because you can't have that final segment without things getting out of hand or a little wild...but the last straight forward wrestling match will be Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet for the Open the Freedom Gate Title. To me they exemplify what the ECW Arena was all about and that was where new talent could make their reputation and in some cases be discovered. Where that new talent became the new stars."
Lots of more memories are given and more stories from the past of the ECW Arena. We also have a great interview with Dragon Gate USA Champion Johnny Gargano who is one of our favorite guests, plus in the beginning a great candid interview with Executive Producer & Marketing Director of AAPW Chris Hagstrom and Adam Testa who are bringing in Colt Cabana, PAC, and El Generico in for their promotion this weekend.
