-Former Four Horsemen member and Chicago Bear Steve “Mongo” McMichael is scheduled to take part in a celebrity kickboxing match against former Packers cornerback Sammy Walker on Feb. 23 in Rockford, Ill. “They don’t call me Mongo for nothing,” McMichael said in an interview published by the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “I like to whoop some butt.” The article also notes that McMichael is coaching the Chicago Slaughter of the Continental Indoor Football League.
-The U.K. Sun website issues a press release to tout the fact that the Heyman Hustle online video show has been moved to the main page. “This is the story of a made scramble to make a deadline when everything goes wrong before the very first episode is shot,” Paul Heyman is quoted as saying in the release. To see the front page listing, visit the U.K. Sun website.
Powell’s POV: The article on McMichael notes that because it’s a celebrity kickboxing match, there’s no kicking allowed. How hilarious is that? I’m guessing it might also have something to do with the fact that he’s 50 year-old and probably has the knees of a 150 year-old man following his football career and stint as a wrestler. By the way, former colleague (and expert on most things Packers) Jon "Pooch" Lopuch emailed to say he doesn't even remember Walker.
As for the Heyman item, "The Hustle" further cements the Sun’s status as my favorite online newspaper. The Page 3 gimmick locked it up for me a long time ago.
