Former WCW wrestler Chase Tatum was found dead in his home in Buckhead, Georgia on Sunday. Roy Tatum told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his son died of an accidental overdose 10 days after undergoing back surgery, and added that he was planning to enter a rehabilitation program in Miami. “He was in the process of getting his life back together,” Tatum told the AJC. “He was confident that he was going to turn things around, to live a normal life without those painkillers.”
Tatum wrestled for approximately two-and-a-half years. His father said he suffered the injury while working for WCW and took pills to get by for a number of years because he did not have health insurance to pay for the surgery. He had been acting in recent years and appeared in the 2007 release Who’s Your Caddy? To read the full story, visit AJC.com.
Powell’s POV: Tatum was a Power Plant trainee who made several appearances on WCW television. He won the Mr. Georgia bodybuilding competition at age 19, so he fit the mold of what they were looking for at the Power Plant. It’s sad to hear he was so close to seeking help for his problem at the time of his death.
