Bobby Lashley has been telling friends that he intentionally signed with a smaller mixed martial arts group because he hopes to rack up a couple of impressive wins and then take the best offer from one of the bigger companies such as UFC, Elite XC, or Affliction. He has a two-fight deal with the American Fight League that is non-exclusive, so he can continue to accept independent bookings.

A source close to Lashley reports that he doesn't seem sold on TNA even though people within the company have done their best to recruit him. Rather, he seems serious about his MMA career and will continue to take independent pro wrestling bookings. Obviously, things could change if TNA makes him a strong financial offer or if his MMA career doesn't pan out.

Powell's POV: Lashley is making a risky move by hoping that the top groups take notice of his American Fight League run. The best case scenario is that a couple of the bigger promotions will take interest and enter a bidding war for his services, but it's also possible that he bombs on the small circuit or his limited star power fades the longer he's away from WWE and national television. Keep in mind that UFC didn't think he was a big enough draw and passed on their chance to sign him.
