3/7 Pro Wrestling Guerilla: The Briscoes, Jack Evans, Human Tornado, Necro Butcher, Claudio Castagnoli, Roderick Strong
Mar 8, 2008 - 08:35 PM

PWG Scared Straight
Reseda, Calif. at the American Legion Hall Post 308 (attendance est. 275)
Report by Saul Stradlin

1. TJ Perkins and Hook Bomberry over Scorpio Sky and Ronin. Good opener. This was a match in the DDT4 Round Robin Qualifying Series with both teams coming in with two points. Perkins and Bomberry got the win when the referee caught Ronin with a chair after the heel team brought it into the ring (ala Eddie Guerrero). Perkins and Bomberry would advance in the Round Robin tournament with 4 points.

2. Claudio Castagnoli over Roderick Strong. Another solid match. The beginning saw Claudio chop Strong, and when Strong went to chop him back, Claudio would run off and avoid getting hit. Strong would later get some really stiff chops on Claudio. Claudio gets the win with a Ricola Bomb.

3. The Young Bucks and Los Luchas fought to a No Contest. This was the second match of the night in the DDT4 Round Robin Qualifiers (with both teams tied with two points each) and a rematch from the 2007 Battle Of Los Angeles. This was very fast paced, lots of high flying, and the fans were really into this.

The match ended when Perkins and Bomberry ran in and attacked both teams, resulting in a No Contest. After the match, PWG Commissioner of Wrestling Dino Windwood and Commissioner of Food and Beverages Excalibur ruled that they will make an announcement on Monday regarding the point situation.

4. Eddie Kingston over Necro Butcher. This was a wild brawl that went around the entire venue, including the stage area where the commentary was being recorded. Many chairs spots were done in this. The finish came when PWG World Champ Human Tornado (wearing a Chris Hero shirt, continuing the feud between the two in a small way as Hero was in Germany) came out and distracted the referee when Necro had Kingston pinned.

Kingston rolled up Necro and pulled his jeans for extra leverage. After the match Tornado tried to attack Necro, but Necro fought him off. Necro was about to hit Tornado with a chairshot until Tornado left the ring. Necro ended up hitting Kingston with the chair instead.

After the match, there was a 15 minute intermission. Necro spent this time at the bar with fans. After intermission, Excalibur and Dino Windwood discussed several subjects inside the ring so that the fans would not miss out on any action on their way back to their seats. During this, Excalibur announced that at the next PWG show (March 21st), Eddie Kingston and Claudio Castagnoli will take on Joey Ryan and Scott Lost for a spot in the DDT4 tournament in May. He also said that if Joey and Scott retain the PWG World Tag Titles, the belts would be on the line.

5. Joey Ryan & Scott Lost (w/Jade Chung) over The Briscoe Brothers to retain the PWG World Tag Team Titles. The Briscoes got a huge pop from the fans in their PWG return. This was a really good match that saw a lot of neat double team moves.

The Briscoes had The Dynasty beat when they hit the Doomsday Device on Joey Ryan, but Claudio Castagnoli would run out and distract the referee, and Eddie Kingston would run in to attack one of the Briscoes and dragged Joey on top of the fallen Briscoe for the win.

After the match, Kingston got on the mic and said the only reason he and Claudio attacked The Briscoes was so they could get a shot at the PWG World Tag Titles at the next show. Kingston received a lot of heat from the fans, and was trashing them, the west coast, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

6. Human Tornado over Jack Evans to retain the PWG World Championship. This match was built as a Grudge Match, and played off an encounter in Japan where Tornado literally broke Jack Evans' face with a spin kick. Evans was a lot more serious in this match than he has been in previous matches in PWG.

Before the match, Tornado cut a promo and referenced the face breaking and told Jack that he was going to break the other part of his face. Jack came into this match looking for revenge, and kept going after Tornado's face with serious kicks. Tornado would get the upper hand and repeatedly attack Evans's face. The finish came when Tornado did the same spin kick that injured Jack's face, and followed it up with a release reverse capture suplex for the win.

After the match, Tornado continued to attack Jack, and dropkicked the PWG World Title into Jack's face. Necro Butcher ran out for the save and went after Tornado, but Tornado was saved by Claudio Castagnoli and Eddie Kingston. Necro posed with the PWG World Title to close out the show.

Notes: Really good show overall that helped advance several story lines and added new twists to the current plots. The crowd was very into the show, but a small group of fans started to get annoying during the main event. Otherwise, the show flowed really well. Joey Ryan and Eddie Kingston did guest commentary during the show. Next show is March 21 in Reseda.

What did you think of WWE's Jeff Hardy "unconscious in a stairwell" storyline?
It was a brilliant final hook for the pay-per-view.
It was a turnoff, but it's par for the course with WWE.
It was one of the sleaziest stunts the company has ever done.
