SHIMMER tapings
Berwyn, Ill.
Report by Jason Detrick
1. Shark Girl defeated Amber Oneal.
MsChif said in an in ring interview with Rebecca Bayless that she proved she could beat Sara Del Ray when she had her pinned without the ref looking on Vol. 17. She said she wanted her title shot. Tonight!
2. Nicole Matthews defeated Lorelei Lee.
3. Daizee Haze defeated Jetta. Lots of comedy to start the match. Haze had a ridiculous amount of bendy flowers, like a bouquet of them. Jetta stole them and rubbed them under her armpit. Daizee retaliated by stealing Jetta's Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew hoodie and doing something to it. Jetta stole the flowers again and stomped them. She then took a drink of water and placed her water bottle on the corner of the ring. Haze then basement dropkicked the water bottle to the floor. Good stuff. I don't remember much from the actual match, but the pre-match antics were great.
Rebecca Bayless interviewed Allison Danger, who had her arm in a sling. She said she broke her collarbone and unfortunately wouldn't be able to compete on Vol. 18. She put over the SHIMMER roster for the injuries they fight through and what a tough business it is.
4. "The Experience" Lexie Fyfe and Malia Hosaka defeated Jennifer Blake and Danyah. This was a better effort from the young Canuck team.
5. Ariel "the Portuguese Princess" defeated Cat Power.
6. Mercedes Martinez defeated Cindy Rogers. Great match. I believe there was a russian leg sweep into the ring post at one point.
7. Nevaeh and Ashley Lane defeated the Minnesota Home Wrecking Crew of Lacey & Rain. To counter what appeared to be the chesticularly-enhanced opposing team, the MnHWC came out in shirts that said "Silicone free." Lacey was yelling about how she was going to try to pop them. Jetta came out with an ice pack on her head and said she had a headache and asked for quiet, so of course the crowd made as much noise as they could. Surprising upset win for the newer team.
8. Amazing Kong defeated Wesna Busic. This was a great match. I would've liked for it to have been longer but other than that great stuff. Lots of stiff strikes and Wesna hit a samoan drop on Kong and then a gorgeous release german suplex for a very near fall. Kong flew quite a ways on that suplex. Wesna's a keeper.
9. Cheerleader Melissa defeated "Dark Angel" Sarah Stock. This match will come off so much better on DVD than it did live due simply to the crowd. The crowd was extremely hot for the entrances on this match, but not for the match. Over the course of the evening the crowd got more and more exhausted and were pretty spent by this point after about six hours of wrestling. I was excited when I saw the rematch of arguably the best match of the title tournament was going to happen, and the match was good, but was a mat-based match and so a lot of this match was in dead silence. Despite being embarrassingly quiet for most of the match, the crowd got with it towards the end and the Kudoh Driver/Cop Killa was great to see. These two are my favorite women wrestlers, so it was a thrill to see them face off live.
10. MsChif defeated Sara Del Ray to become the new SHIMMER champion. Great match. MsChif came off as a huge star. Sara was the heel in this one, and started taking some shortcuts. When the ref asked her what she thought she was doing by cheating so much, she said she was keeping her title. Lots of teases of the Desecrator, and when she finally hit it and got the 3 the crowd went nuts. Great finish, and the crowd was actually alive for this match. MsChif posed with the title as the show ended a little over seven hours after it started.
