Kester's WWE Raw Rundown: The live crowd steals the show, Ryback attacks John Cena, and Dolph Ziggler cashes in his Money in the Bank briefcase successfully
Apr 9, 2013 - 06:20 PM

By Ryan Kester

Hot Crowd

Much like last year, the post-WrestleMania Raw crowd was amazing. A certain something is lost in the open arenas even with so many people in attendance, and it was great to see such a hot crowd making their voices heard. It sure flustered the WWE talent and production, but if you were a part of last night's insane audience in East Rutherford, thank you for making last night a Raw that will not soon be forgotten.

John Cena, Mark Henry, and Ryback

Cena was back to his dorkiest persona possible last night, but it was forgivable considering nothing would have played better to the crowd than Cena at his cheesiest. Cena really needs to reign in this act in the coming weeks, however, as the men he's paired with need to be treated as proper threats for their acts to work.

Mark Henry did well last night. It was somewhat expected to see him paired with Cena, even if it's for a short spell, after his victory over Ryback. WWE has plans with Henry; time will tell whether those plans extend beyond a feud with Cena or if Henry will be the fall guy in the first half of a Cena/Ryback feud.

The announcers really played up their dismay at Ryback attacking Cena, so one has to imagine their goal is to turn him heel. I'm not sure how successful that will be when having Ryback paired against Cena. It's all too likely that the group that normally boos Cena will rally behind Ryback as he's tearing into the source of their ire. Still, the thought of a dominant heel Ryback is an intriguing one, but WWE may be jumping the shark by turning him before he's had his first huge babyface victory.

Dolph Ziggler

Finally. While it would have been preferable to see this move made last night on the big stage, the electric crowd from last night made Ziggler's cash in feel like the major moment that it should.

One can only hope that WWE gets Alberto Del Rio's rematch over quickly before moving on. Del Rio is in need of a bit of a revamp already. He's simply not connecting with his babyface character and it's to the point that he seems like a lower midcard act getting a push he's not ready to take. Del Rio does have talent, but he needs a character he can connect with and writers that are able to bring out the charisma he showed when he first arrived in the WWE.

Overall Show

Last night's Raw was fun for all the wrong reasons. The two newsworthy segments were really the only ones worth watching on the show, but the hot crowd made the show an absolute blast. If you missed last night's show for some reason, it's worth going out of your way to see if for no other reason than the hilarity of it all.
