Kester's TNA Impact Wrestling Rundown: A half-hearted holiday effort highlighted by returning Gut Check winners
By Ryan Kester
First of all, I just want to say that I am very thankful to be working with such a great group of guys with so many different perspectives on this business, and I enjoy being able to talk with so many of my fellow fans about all things wrestling. I hope you all have had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I hope that you stayed safe if you went out and shopped today.
Out of all of the retuning Gut Check participants, York was the most promising, and he was the only one that got any real time to show something in the ring. His match with hardy was really good, and he could be a future star in TNA. I like his look, I like his move set, and I like that he can bring some legitimacy to the Gut Check.
The only issue I've seen with York is that he is about as bad as possible on the mic. TNA is a talk-heavy promotion, and York is stuck in that stereotypical professional wrestler promo style. If he can break out of that, he can be something big for TNA. As it stands, they will need to make sure he can be paired with good talkers in his feuds as he will need to be carried on the stick.
Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan
I'm not sure what's wrong with me, but I am happy this is happening. It may well produce some terrible television, but the idea of Bully ray selling this angle makes me smile.
Yes, there's a lot of silliness involved with a relationship idea considering this is being presented as if Brooke is still living at home, but for now I am willing to give it some slack.
Gut Check returns
This was a fun idea with a disappointing execution. TNA could have put on several longer matches and left a lot of the typical tomfoolery to wait a week. It would have allowed these guys to have some time to shine when they've been gone from television since they won. Still, I prefer this idea considerably to the terrible Thanksgiving Thong Thunder crap we got from them last year.
Last night's show was what it was. It was a half-hearted and dull show meant to get TNA through the holiday and save any real story progression for next week. They managed to create a hook at the end of the show to get viewers to tune in next week, and that's really all one can ask for.
