Kester's TNA Turning Point Rundown: A fantastic ladder match stands out in an otherwise mediocre PPV with Aces and Eight sin a holding pattern and AJ Styles locked out of the title picture for almost an entire year

Jeff Hardy vs. Austin Aries

Without a doubt, this was the match of the night. These two men put on the show I expected out of them and more, and I was shocked to see some of the spots they utilized for an otherwise skippable PPV outing. I still have my misgivings about the story going into this match, but they executed the payoff for this feud well.

I sincerely hope that the end of the match was simply a case of Aries selling the beating he took effectively rather than him being legitimately hurt. As much as I enjoy the spectacle that these matches can produce, I hate seeing guys go so far that they actually end up hurt.

Aces and Eights

Aces and Eights had a mediocre PPV appearance when I could have really used something to breathe life into the group. DOC (still a stupid name) managed to look strong again in his victory, but Devon looked like a chump by tapping out to Angle. I don't like the idea of Devon being the current face of the group, but he is, so for him to be presented as weak damages the group as a whole.

TNA seems to be really trying to stretch this group out and the more and more they do that, the staler the group feels. I hope they can manage to get to some sort of meaningful advancement before viewers simply no longer care what happens.

A.J. Styles vs. James Storm vs. Bobby Roode

This was another solid match throughout the evening. Honestly, I hope this is the beginning of a slow heel turn for Styles. His babyface character is stale, and he is constantly complaining in a heel fashion as it is. He's not a strong babyface, he was damaged by the Claire storyline, and he could use something to breathe life into his act.

It is a bit odd seeing Storm transitioning into a feud with Hardy. It feels like the wrong time for a babyface vs. babyface feud, and Hardy is just getting out of a babyface vs. babyface feud that led to a heel turn. I hope they are not contemplating doing the same thing as I feel there is still a lot of life left in Storm's character.

Overall Show

Last night's show was average. There was nothing offensively terrible about it, but outside of the main event, there was nothing particularly thrilling either.
