Kester's WWE Night of Champions Rundown: CM Punk and John Cena have the match of the night, Sheamus vs. Alberto del Rio happened, Daniel Bryan and Kane steal the show, and more

CM Punk vs. John Cena

This was a great match and easily the second best match in their series. I loved the creative near falls throughout the match and both men really gave the hot crowd everything they had.

Most of all, I enjoyed the finish of the match. A draw is a rarely utilized tool in wrestling, but it was perfect here. It continues the series without either man looking better, but more importantly it made Cena look sympathetic while giving Punk a ton of heat. Cena fans having their big celebration taken away from them will pay dividends for Punk's heel push.

Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio

The story going in was weak and only got furtherer weakened by Booker T's removal of the Brogue Kick ban. The match we got was passable, but it's hard to get invested when neither man has had a lot of character growth in a long time nor did they provide something new in the ring.

With Hell in a Cell right around the corner, it appears that we will be getting at least one more month out of this feud. If that's the case, I have an early candidate for the match at HIAC that I want to see the least.

Daniel Bryan and Kane

Things just keep getting better with these two. One of the pops of the night came when Kane and Bryan hugged, and I love how they are consistently winning their matches by fighting with one another. This has been a ton of fun and it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon.

I continue to be impressed with how Daniel Bryan has managed to get over with the WEW audience and continue to stay over with subtle changes to his act. Kane's dry humor is a perfect foil to Bryan's over the top antics.

Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler

This match was fun to watch. It was one of the better contests of the night, but I feel like Orton really should have taken the loss here. Orton is not far from taking time away to film a movie, and Ziggler needs all the build he can get before he takes the belt off of Sheamus.

Still, it's hard to complain about the quality of wrestling we got from these two. This match could have easily been on a WrestleMania card without feeling out of place.

Eve

I complained in my [preview for the show about how the title match featured two women that aren't over when the only actual character in the division had the night off. WWE rectified that error last night and they made the right call by putting the belt on Eve.

I'm hoping we get some more faux sportsmanship and politeness from Eve. She's been very entertaining as of late and I feel like she can still get some mileage out of this character. Layla simply didn't click with the fans like she did at one point, and she looked like an absolute fool for falling for a handshake after distrusting Eve for so long.

Overall Show

Last night's show was excellent. From top to bottom I found myself entertained, and WWE managed to make even the undercard titles feel important, even if it is only for one night.
