Kester's TNA Impact Wrestling Rundown: Austin Aries and Jeff Hardy begin their feud, Aces and Eights makes TNA's executives uneasy, and TNA establishes challengers for Christopher Daniels and Kazarian

Austin Aries and Jeff Hardy

So far, Aries and Hardy are being nothing but respectful towards one another. That approach works fine for now, but they are going to have to have a reason to be heated with one another. "We're going to tear the house down together" is not a story that is good enough for TNA's professed biggest PPV of the year.

Hardy needs to shake his act up a bit. He's been rocking the same look over the past year and rarely gets past the tired "Creatures of the Night" spiel. I know Hardy is capable of a character with more depth, and if TNA ever plans on having him wear their strap again, he is going to have to be able to hold his own on the mic.

Hardy also came off as an idiot by putting his title shot on the line. I know this is done in wrestling a lot and babyfaces are supposed to take all comers, but this type of decision really makes the babyfaces look like meat-headed idiots rather than good guys that people should cheer for.

Aces and Eights

TNA kept the Aces and Eights progression to a minimum tonight with the focus being more on the TNA executives trying to figure out who the mole is in the locker room. This type of intrigue is good and can eat up a few weeks of television time.

I hope, however, that the corny background music is left on the cutting room floor. When that sound effect happened, I felt like covering my face in embarrassment for TNA. That type of cheesy production should not be happening on a segment people are expected to take seriously.

Tag Team Division

TNA did their bets to establish some semblance of a tag team division last night, even if that division is just a collection of singles competitors thrown together. Still, TNA managed to produce some good television and gave Daniels and Kazarian a pair of challengers. I am expecting this will lead to a triple threat down the line, which I am against simply because I was hoping that the AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels feud would actually come to an end sometime soon. They have been feuding for well over a year at this point and it has long since grown stale.

On a brief note, I am disappointed to see Chavo continue to utilize the late Eddie Guererro's move set rather than his own. I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating, Chavo using that move set comes off as exploitive, not honorary. It's something that actively takes me out of any match Chavo is in.

Overall Show

Last night's show was solid. It wasn't the most breathtaking performance TNA has put on, but it was adequate. TNA has a lot of work ahead of them in the Bound For Glory build, and last night was spent more reflecting on and undermining the preceding PPV with unannounced rematches.
