Kester's TNA Impact Wrestling Rundown: Aces and Eights continue their assaults, James Storm's integrity is question, the Bound For Glory Series continues, and Open Fight Night comes a week late

Aces and Eights and James Storm

The big story in TNA right now is Aces and Eight and their potential leadership. I'm not entirely enthusiastic about this approach as I would love to see a wrestling stable just be that, a stable. Not Big Dude and his cohorts, but a group that is to be reckoned with.

I like the idea of Bobby Roode trying to drag Storm's name through the mud by associating hi with the group, but it's coming at an awfully poor time. TNA is already undermining one of their biggest babyfaces with a bastard baby storyline; they don't need to undermine their top babyface's integrity by having his brethren question him. That's exactly how this week's Impact ended, and I think it's a mistake that does more harm than good.

Bound For Glory Series

Another week, another string of strong matches and presentation in the BFGS. This year's series has really impressed me compared to the offering we had last year.

If I have one nit to pick, it's TNA's handling of frantic finishes like the Storm vs. Styles match last night. TNA tends to cut to commercial as a fast as possible since they went live, yet in doing so they left out the result of the match and had to retroactively explain things down the road. That does not emphasize the importance of the BFGS and could confuse fans quickly. TNA needs to slow don and focus in general, but it's doubly important on something that requires viewers keeping track of for weeks on end.

Open Fight Night a week late

One has to wonder why TNA didn't just wait a week and call last night's show Open Fight Night. They had the beginning and end of a Gut Check and the X-Division elimination to title match format that didn't happen on last week's Impact.

I made my misgivings about the Gut Check perfectly clear in my live coverage last night, but I enjoyed Aries' work with the X-Division eliminations. They still had that hokey forced "realness" feel about with logic holes you could drive a truck through, but they were at least entertaining. At the end of the day, that's the most important thing for a wrestling segment to do, entertain its audience.

Kenny King is showing a lot of promise for filling the void left by Aries. He has that certain something that a wrestler needs to be a star and I hope to see TNA really get behind him.

Overall Show

Last night's Impact was solid. It wasn't' a standout and it wasn't bad, it was just a good edition of a wrestling show.
