Kester's WWE Raw Rundown: The Undertaker and Triple H steal the show, Chris Jericho wins a battle royal, and John Cena spends the night talking

The Undertaker and Triple H

This segment, especially the ending moments, stole the show. While the segment was getting long in the tooth, they managed to strike a good chord the moment Undertaker brought up HBK. The announcement of their WrestleMania match, coupled with the Hell in a Cell stipulation, absolutely ignited the crowd, and it made for a memorable TV moment.

The prospect of a modern Taker/HHH Hell in a Cell match is intriguing. The reason why the cell meant so much at one point was from the work that Undertaker and Triple H put into building that gimmick. I have no doubt that they have something special in mind for this year, and I look forward to seeing what it is.

I do hope that last night's marathon verbal exchange will be the last one between these two for a while. They run the risk of overexposure if they keep the extended promo segments going week after week.

CM Punk and Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho winning a ten-man battle royal for a shot at the WWE Championship is one of the least interesting ways WWE could have utilized to set up CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho at WrestleMania. While I am normally of the mind that changing a title at the Elimination Chamber is ridiculous, this was the one time when that would have been a compelling way to set up the match.

Chris Jericho's luster has been diminished significantly since the Royal Rumble. He never made good on his promises and he comes across like your rank and file chickenshit heel, which is absolutely disappointing. I expected great things from Jericho, and he has so far yet to deliver.

This is by no means an attempt for me to say that I am not looking forward to the eventual showdown between Punk and Jericho because I very much am. I'm just not engaged by the story that I am being presented with along the way.

John Cena

Last night was not a good night for Cena. The idea of Cena being upset for being played is fine, and I can understand a few barbs, but calling someone a disease-ridden whore is not something the poster boy of a company (whose main audience is children) should be doing under any circumstances. I believe WWE was trying to transition any heat gained from the kiss last week onto Eve, but they simply took things a bit too far.

His show-closing promo did very little for me. The content of the promo was great, with Cena talking about why he wants to beat The Rock and why he can't stand him, but Cena's delivery ruined he segment for me. He sounded like he wanted to dive into a rap, and that undercut a lot of what he was trying to get across. Again, the content was good, but when you can't deliver a promo in a manner that feels authentic and not forced, it quickly loses its impact. Cena needs to watch the Taker/Triple H segment from last night and try and emulate the authenticity those two displayed.

Overall Show

Last night's show was a lackluster affair with several throwaway matches. It also featured a great promo segment that got plenty of time and attention, which makes for solid WrestleMania hype, but not for the most entertaining two hours of television possible.
