Bobby Roode, Jeff Hardy, and James Storm
The three men in the title picture spent most of their screen time brawling with one another. That was perfectly fine at first, but with the main event being a lengthy tables match, the brawling became overload for this viewer. That hurt the entertainment value of the main event for me because it felt like I had already seen enough of that from all four men in the evening. Less is more.
I like the fact that TNA seems to be trying to put heat on the heel in this feud, but a lot of that was undone by Bobby Roode taking the loss. Bully Ray managed to salvage something by attacking the babyfaces after the bell, but that puts heat on the only man that isn't actually involved in the title picture.
Christopher Daniels controls Kazarian
Christopher Daniels continues to shine on the mic. The manipulative heel turning friends against each other has been done before, but there is plenty of history between Daniels, Kazarian, and AJ Styles for this to feel unique. Daniels' mocking of Styles' consistent complaining had me cracking up.
I look forward to the match proposed by Daniels. Kazarian and Styles work very well together, and it should make for a very entertaining and well-wrestled contest.
Alex Shelley vs. Zema Ion
Alex Shelley and Zema Ion easily had the best match of the night. It was unfortunately buried by a plethora of backstage segments, but Shelley and Io worked a very fast pace without resorting to a spot fest. I hope to see more form these two in the future.
We're finally going to get the Austin Aries vs. Alex Shelley feud. Last week, Aries delivered an absolute superb promo, but he was kept off of this show. I hope that TNA treats this feud a bit differently than they have previous X-Division feuds, and Aries and Shelley get some more TV time. I am confident that they will make the most of whatever they are given and deliver very entertaining television.
Overall Show
Last night's show was the latest example of one of TNA's biggest problems. The show lacked focus, and it moved as such a clip that viewers were given no time to absorb a particular storyline progression before TNA moved on to the next thing. That lack of focus makes nothing stand out about the show, and you end up with the main event getting the same amount of attention and hype as the show's comedy match. It prevents storylines from having any real impact and that makes it difficult to invest in TNA's storylines. TNA needs to slow down. They showed last week that they have the capacity to produce an evenly paced show with some focus, now they just need to do it consistently.
