Kester's TNA Genesis Rundown: Bobby Roode defends his TNA Championship, Gail Kim defends her Knockouts Championship, and Kurt Angle defeats James Storm

Bobby Roode vs. Jeff Hardy

Both men put on a great show that was tarnished by yet another cheap finish on a TNA PPV. With TNA resorting to such finishes with such frequency, the crowds don't allow themselves to be fooled; they don't invest in the match and it makes the hard work put worth by the wrestlers come off as lackluster. PPVs should feel like the big deal they are hyped to be, and this sort of main event does not deliver.

Bobby Roode has gone from a credible babyface getting hard fought wins over his stable mates to one of the biggest chickenshit heels in wrestling. Roode is in desperate need of a high profile clean win to get some credibility as a champion. Cheap win after cheap win will only make him look weak as a champion and make his first reign forgettable.

Kurt Angle vs. James Storm

My expectations were high for this contest. Perhaps too high, as this is the second time these two have met and I was left with a feeling of "that was it?" Don't get me wrong, this match was by no means bad, but it was more passable than good or great.

I get the feeling that Kurt Angle wants to save the over-the-top throw down for the pair's final match. If so, good for him as there's no need for him to take the risks he was with his body on a consistent basis. The only issue there is that people remember what his matches were like and expect fireworks when he gets in there with another good worker like James Storm.

Gail Kim vs. Mickie James

Gail Kim and Mickie James have obviously grown comfortable with each other's styles. With each match these two have, they seem to bump better for each other and have a better flow to their contests. This could easily be a very hot rivalry that the Knockouts division has needed.

However, to borrow a phrase from fellow Dot Net Staffer Will Pruett, the booking gets in the way of the wrestling. Most of Kim and James' matches have ended with some form of interference, and last night was no exception. The women work hard, but there's only so much than can be done when the writers insist on adding brass knuckles and suspended cages to a match.

Austin Aries vs. Kid Kash vs. Jesse Sorensen vs. Zema Ion

This was easily the best match on the card despite being hampered by more of TNA's booking. Still, the men managed to tell a good story and Aries gave rub to Sorensen and Ion.

Going forward, I would love to see Aries get some more time on the mic to continue gathering heat. As it stands, he hasn't really developed since capturing the title, and I fear his character will become stagnant without a bit of time to solidify his place as the top heel in the X-Division. Ion and Sorensen should have a good feud to get each other over while Aries works with another X-Division wrestler.

Overall Show

Genesis was a very disappointing and frustrating PPV to sit through. TNA obviously does not care about its PPV product and begrudges the contract that requires them to put on a monthly show despite a lacking return on investment. While I can understand their frustrations, I cannot fathom why TNA chooses to take it out on their most loyal fans that actually pay to watch their shows.
