Kester's WWE Night of Champions Preview and Predictions: Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena, Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry, C.M. Punk vs. Triple H in a No Disqualification Match, and more
Sep 17, 2011 - 03:38 PM

By Ryan Kester

The following predictions are made with no inside knowledge or clairvoyance as to what the finishes will be. They are predictions made based on what WWE has done and what I think they will do.

Alberto Del Rio vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship: John Cena simply cannot win this match. He has no feud waiting for him if he captures the title, and Alberto Del Rio needs to get some credibility. Unfortunately, Cena does not lose clean, and I fully expect Del Rio will have to resort to some chickenshit heel tactics to retain his title.

Prediction: Alberto del Rio will retain his championship in some very cheap fashion.

Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry for the World Heavyweight Championship: hark Henry has been on the roll of all rolls recently, and if his character is going to continue to get over, then he needs to capture the title here. Henry has shown that, even if he can't go as well as a Randy Orton-type, he can still tell a good story in the ring. I think he needs to capture the title here and go on to demolish his challenges. If they do this, they could easily make a babyface by having them finally be the ones to get the best of the big man.

Prediction: Mark Henry defeats Randy Orton and win his first World Heavyweight Championship.

C.M. Punk vs. Triple H in a No Disqualification Match: This match can't end in a clean finish. I'd love to see Punk win the match in that manner, but I expect we'll see Kevin Nash show up and attack Hunter to give Punk the win so that Triple H's replacement can give him his job back. I hope we aren't on the threshold of a Punk heel turn, but the possibility is certainly there.

Prediction: C.M. Punk wins due to outside interference.

Air Boom vs. The Miz & R-Truth for the WWE Tag Team Championships: While Air Boom have put on some fun matches recently, they've never had any conflict as a team. I think a good chase could do that, and I would like to see these two teams continue working together past this PPV.

Prediction: The Miz and R-Truth win and become the new WWE Tag team Champions.

Cody Rhodes vs. Ted DiBiase for the Intercontinental Championship: Ted DiBiase has done absolutely nothing to warrant capturing the title here, plus Rhodes has spent the better part of the last month talking about how he is bringing legitimacy back to the IC title. If he's going to do that, he's can't drop it this quick, and he certainly can't drop it to the least over character on the roster.

Prediction: Cody Rhodes retains his Intercontinental Championship.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger vs. John Morrison vs. Alex Riley for the United States Championship: This is your "get everyone on the show" match. Riley and Morrison are only in this match to keep the Ziggler/Swagger interactions to a minimum. I expect we'll see Ziggler retain, and his feud with Swagger to continue.

Prediction: Dolph Ziggler retains the United Sates Championship

Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix for the Divas Championship: Beth Phoenix either needs to win the title here or the Divas division will roll over and die until Kharma comes back. I think not putting the title on Beth at SummerSlam was a colossal mistake as it has only done damage to the story that Natalya and Phoenix have been telling. Beth wins, and I pray that Kelly Kelly gets paired up with a trainer to improve her in-ring skills.

Prediction: Beth Phoenix defeats Kelly Kelly and wins the Divas Championship.
