Kester's TNA "Impact Wrestling" Rundown: The Bound for Glory Series continues, Sting loses his mind, and the overbooked finishes come back with a vengeance
Jun 24, 2011 - 05:55 PM

The purpose of this editorial is to rundown the latest edition of professional wrestling programming by highlighting the various segments and storylines of the show, quickly recounting what happened, how I feel about what happened, and what I want to see out of a storyline or feud going forward. The following Rundown covers the June 23 edition of Impact Wrestling.

By Ryan Kester

Sting:

Sting started the night by showing off his new crazed gimmick when attacking Eric Bischoff. Then, in his match with Abyss, he took Abyss's barbed wire glove and used it to open up the big man's forehead.

I really feel like they jumped the shark with Sting. He was the reasonable savior of the show recently and now he's acting like the Joker. I worry that they are actually trying to turn the man heel here.

I want this gimmick to end or get dialed back a bit.

Bully Ray beat Scott Steiner:

Bully Ray was tapping out to the Steiner Recliner but the ref was knocked out. Steiner released the hold and Bully Ray punched him in the throat with a steel chain to get the win.

The BFG series is off to a slow start. There wasn't a lot wrong with this match, but there were far too many overbooked finishes on last night's Impact.

Bully Ray needs to be in the final four of the series, as he is the best heel TNA has at the moment.

Miss Jackie and ODB defeated Velvet Sky and Miss Tessmacher:

Jackie picked up the win for her team when she punted Velvet in the crotch.

The promo before this match left a lot to be desired, as did ODB's performance. I feel like they rushed away from the scene too quickly for it to really sink in that Velvet was in so much pain.

This feud can end anytime now. I am not a fan of this feud and it has consistently gotten trashier each and every week.

Crimson and Matt Morgan defeated Beer Money:

Matt Morgan and Crimson picked up a quick win after Morgan hit the Carbon Footprint on Roode.

This was a decent match that made organ look like a star. I am not a fan of the Roode arm injury angle, but I'm glad we got a match with a clean finish here.

Beer Money needs to show some sort of dissention if they're heading towards a split, and arguing over who should pick up the win and BFG series points would be an excellent way of doing so.

AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Christopher Daniels:

AJ Styles announced that Destination X would have a six-sided ring. Samoa Joe and Christopher Daniels then came out and made challenges to AJ. Styles chose Daniels.

Christopher Daniels needs to drop the corporate attire. These two can certainly work a great match if they are given a wealth of time.

This should be a fun match, but unless someone is turning heel it won't go anywhere after the PPV.

Zema Ion defeated Frederico Palacio and Dakota Darsow:

These three competed in a glorified spotfest for about five minutes that included too many botches for a spotfest. Zema Ion got the win after hitting a lackluster 450 splash on Dakota Darsow.

I know this will some people excited, but no-sell spotfests are not my cup of tea. I feel like they produce flashes in the pan and not truly sustainable stars, and I think it was a terrible idea to debut these guys in such a match.

The destination X card continues to take shape, but this match, nor any of its participants, really impressed me.

Winter defeated Mickie James in a Street Fight:

These two began a brawl backstage that bled into the ring. The finish came when Angelina Love ran out and attacked Mickie, allowing Winter to get the 1-2-3.

Why on earth did Love have to hide after she attacked Mickie? This was a street fight. TNA really fails in the logic department at points.

Mickie needs to lose that title. Maybe being in chase mode could make her interesting again, but I am woefully underwhelmed by what she has had to offer so far.

Overall Show:

Overall, Impact last night was a terrible disappointment. The matches were overbooked and I really think they did themselves a disservice with Anderson and Kurt Angle doing nothing on the show.

Thank you for reading through this Impact Wrestling edition of the Rundown. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up at ryan.kester@gmail.com or find me on twitter at @Ryan_Kester. Have a good week.
