Kester's TNA Impact Wrestling Rundown: Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan defend themselves, Hulk Hogan becomes and angry father, Bobby Roode and Jeff Hardy continue their feud, and more

Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan

This idea went downhill fast for me. I was excited going in, but something about Hogan's performance just didn't click with me. His anger simply doesn't feel genuine and the story they're trying to tell needs his performances to come off as raw and real. Instead, they feel forced and staged.

There are ways to recover this going forward. If Hulk focuses more on the idea of his daughter dating a wrestler or a man that is so much older, then they may have something for him to genuinely play off. As it stands he comes off as the cliché overprotective father, and it's being done in a way that isn't convincing me to invest and give a damn about what is going on.

Bobby Roode and Jeff Hardy

We didn't get much in the way of advancement this week, but what we got was effective enough. Bobby Roode managed to get some heat but preparing to assault a new babyface with a chair, and Hardy got to stand tall as that babyface's savior. It's a small advancement, but it was an effective one.

I like how Christian York is being used in this process. He's lost twice, but he's gotten so much rub from top stars that he's being presented as a big deal. I still hold that he should have been the first man to win the Gut Check match, but what's done is done. If TA wants to get the most mileage out of York, they really need to reach into their bag of tricks and find a way to keep him of the mic.

Wes Brisco

I loved Wes' mic work during the Gut Check judging. He was calm and talked through the majority of the promo, only amping it up with emotion down the stretch rather than stereotypical yelling. I see good things for him in such a talk heavy promotion.

Overall Show

Last night's show was solid, but still suffered from TNA trying to shove too much into one broadcast. They really need to focus on leaving viewers with a few storylines in their heads and allowing their production department to remind people about the lesser angles. As it stands every segment gets the same focus, and none of them are better off for it.
