Mark Out Moments - Monday Night Raw: No. 1 Contender match for the WWE Championship, an unadvertised United States Championship match, and Kharma continues to dominate the Diva division
May 10, 2011 - 10:02 AM

By Mark Gessner

- Interesting start to Raw. Alberto Del Rio and Miz were both good in driving home their points as to why they deserved title shots. Rey Mysterio was as good as Mysterio can get on the mic. He's passable-to-good on the mic, but that is not where he makes his money so it is expected. R-Truth however, what the hell was that? He said so much more in his attack in the UK and his attack last week than he did this week in his promo. He had the ability to really get over the point that he was story line responsible for putting John Morrison in the hospital. Talking about his hatred for hospital food was the worst way to get that point over.

- Congratulations to Kelly Kelly for making it on Maxim Magazine's Hot 100. However, how the hell is Cameron Diaz on the damn list, let alone in the top five?! I can think of five more attractive women in wrestling [Velvet Sky, Maryse, Trish Stratus, Angelina Love, and Mickie James in that order]than her. Hell, go to a bar at last call, and I guarantee you will find at least five better looking girls to take home.

- From here on out, or at least for the time being, when you see Divas in the ring, you know who is coming out next. Another good beat down by Kharma. While here destroying a Diva a week is fun, I am excited to see her work her first match in the WWE.

- While last week I made the comment that Jim Ross did a better job in putting Mason Ryan over in three minutes on commentary than WWE had in three months, WWE took away any of that build in the three minutes he was in the ring with Kane and then Big Show after the match. Raw needs a monster heel, and while he is green in the ring, Ryan could feel that role. What would Kane or Big Show lose by putting him over clean? If he looks dominant against both, that would be a big step up in his career.

- What was the point of bringing back David Otunga and Michael McGuillicutty from FCW? They continue to be irrelevant and get taken out two seconds after interfering every week.

- For the first time since his haircut and dye job, Dolph Ziggler seemed to show the edge that Vickie Guerrero has touted before his matches. He was in the ring with Santino though so looking dominant should not be a problem for anyone. He still looks extremely generic with his new look though with is a shame for a very promising wrestler who used to stand out.

- Coming out of NXT Season Two, I felt that Alex Riley had the second most promising career for Superstars on the show behind Wade Barrett. Notice I said Superstars, Danielson and Low-Ki had the best wrestling futures. While he has added to Miz's heel act at times, getting squashed by John Cena like he did tonight and has in shows prior does not help his future. On NXT, he had showings of being a great "I'm better than you and I know it" gimmick as the Varsity Villain. Maybe getting away from Miz, moving to Smackdown since he was drafted there two weeks ago, and trying to get over on his own will be best for his career and his longevity in the WWE.

- It was announced tonight that "Help Is On The Way" by Rise Against is the official theme song for Over The Limit. If you have not heard Rise Against before, go to iTunes right now and search for them. Phenomenal, phenomenal band.

- WWE walked the line of decency with the death of Jerry Lawler's mother after it happened in February. Michael Cole crossed and pissed on the line tonight. It is not cheap heat, it is cringe inducing and was met with silence. And, I do not think WWE gives Michael Cole that kind of leeway that he can say whatever necessary to get a heel reaction. This classless promo needs to be blamed on whoever wrote that for Cole.

- Why would you not advertise ahead of time that you are not only having a United States Championship on Raw? Hell, if you take the title out of consideration, having Jack Swagger and Kofi in a match is something that should be advertised since they are two young and talented Superstars.

- Jack Swagger announcing that Cole will face King is all but a guarantee that Swagger will be turning babyface. We've seen him as the cocky heel when he debuted and became ECW Champion, the dominant heel in his brief World Heavyweight Championship reign, and now Cole's security. He's someone whose in-ring talent can get him over with fans and it will be interesting to see how he evolves his character.

- If you takeaway the fact that it had been announced that John Cena vs. The Miz for the WWE Championship in an "I Quit" Match was advertised on Key Arena's website as the main event for Over The Limit, this was a very good main event. Where was I though when WWE put in a no-disqualification stipulation for all triple threat matches? Hopefully Cena and Miz work a match similar to last week's at Over The Limit rather than their Wrestlemania match.
