11/3 DGUSA "Uprising 2012" iPPV: CIMA and AR Fox vs. Ryo Saito and Genki Horiguchi for the DGUSA United Gate Titles, El Generico vs. Sami Callihan in a best of three falls match
Nov 4, 2012 - 10:24 AM |
DGUSA Uprising iPPV
Voorhees, N.J.
Report by Dot Net Member Zim (thanks also to Anthony Giovagnoli for the results)
1. Jigsaw and Fire Ant defeated D.U.F. (Arik Cannon and Pinkie Sanchez) after a combo double-stomp/Jig-N-Tonic.
2. Akira Tozawa beat Samuray Del Sol after hitting his arm-trap delayed German suplex. Fantastic match.
Jon Davis came to the ring in street clothes and said that after what he did to Johnny Gargano last night, there wasn't going to be a match. Enter Gargano, also in street clothes, and the Anything Goes match was underway.
3. Jon Davis defeated DGUSA Champion Johnny Gargano in less than a minute following a lariat. Gargano was easy prey for Davis with his injured back.
Post match, Davis went back to attacking before Gargano super kicked him off the apron through a table. Gargano went back through the curtain, and as Davis gingerly made his way to the back, Gargano dove off the set rigging onto Davis and continued the brawl for several more minutes. The story coming out of this is the chance that Gargano won't be physically capable of defending the title on Sunday night. Later in the night, they announced that if Gargano was unable to compete, a new DGUSA champ would be crowned.
4. The Super Smash Bros. (Player Uno and Player Dos) defeated World-1 Int'l (Ricochet and Rich Swann) after the Fatality (double team Gory Bomb/springboard front flip cutter)
INTERMISSION
5. The Gentleman's Club of Chuck Taylor, Drew Gulak, and Orange Cassidy (w/Swamp Monster and Colonel) defeated The Scene Caleb Konley and Scott Reed and Cheech (w/Larry Dallas and Trina). The finish came when Chucky T hit the Awful Waffle on Cheech. More great comedy from the Gentleman's Club in this one which, while it may not be great for wrestling, they bring a wildly entertaining aspect to DGUSA.
6. Sami Callihan defeated El Generico 2-1 in a 2/3 falls match. The first fall came about 30 seconds in; The bell rang and Generico immediately hit his Yakuza kick and then rolled Callihan up only to have Callihan reverse the pin and pick up the surprise fall on a small package. The second fall went to Generico coming off a brainbuster. The third fall was Sami locking in the Stretch Muffler after working Generico's leg all match, and finally dropping down and grapevining the legs to get the submission. A candidate for match of the night from these two.
7. CIMA and AR Fox defeated The Jimmys (Ryo Saito and Genki Horiguchi) to retain the DGUSA United Gate Titles when Fox hit Ricochet with Lo Mein Pain followed by CIMA with the Meteora. Match of the night, hands down. Just a great tag team match from from absolutely incredible athletes.
Notes: Overall, it was another great in-ring show from DGUSA and had 3 matches at or above 4 stars, in my opinion. Tozawa/Del Sol, Calligan/Generico, and Fox-CIMA/Jimmys were all worth going out of your way to see, and there wasn't a disappointing match on the show (other than the Gargano/Davis brawl, which is clearly setting up a story).
It also appeared that the crowd here was only slightly hotter than the previous night from Everett, still not nearly as reactive or fun as I've seen on DGUSA iPPVs in the past. I'll be back this evening/tomorrow with my in-person report from tonight's night 3: Freedom Fight from Deer Park, N.Y.
