Barnett’s 2012 WWE No Way Out Preview and Predictions

These predictions are based on no advanced knowledge of anything, and are nothing more than my musings base on observation of WWE Televison.

David Otunga vs. Brodus Clay in the Youtube Pre-Show Match: Well, it’s interesting to see how these two respond to being in a legit feud. Otunga didn’t do a very convincing job of hurting Brodus Clay, even though WWE went forward and announced an MCL tear as the dramatic hook for the match. I don’t believe this will be much more than an average 3-5 minute WWE TV Match, but my interest in piqued to see if either of these guys can have a break out moment that would increase WWE’s confidence to have them try to carry a higher profile story. I expect the injury to play into the match, and the feud to continue.

Prediction: David Otunga defeats Brodus Clay via Count-Out.

Santino Marella vs. Ricardo Rodriguez in a Tuxedo Match: Despite its comical nature and the fact that the US Champion is in a non-title match against a non-wrestler on PPV, I’m actually looking forward to seeing what Santino and Ric Rod have in store for this match. They are the two most genuinely funny people on the roster, so if nothing we may get a chuckle out of parts of it. I expect this to be short and sweet and fairly early in the evening.

Prediction: Santino defeats Ricardo Rodriguez and ruins his Tux.

Layla vs. Beth Phoenix for the WWE Divas Title: Well, could this finally be the month that we see Kharma return on PPV and breathe some life to the struggling divas division? Or, will it be another 4 minute match that nobody reacts to? I hope it’s the former, because Layla’s return has not fired up crowds, and along with Kelly Kelly’s hiatus, the Divas are on life support right now. I’m hoping Beth recaptures her title and is immediately assaulted by Kharma.

Prediction: Beth Phoenix defeats Layla by pinfall.

Christian vs. Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Title: This is my sleeper match for this show. Christian has looked sharp in the ring since his return and I’m still of the belief that Cody Rhodes is one of the more underappreciated in ring performers in the company. If they give these two more than the standard 8 minutes they generally give the IC Title on PPV, this could be a lot of fun and could be a great showcase match for what the Intercontinental Title could be if it was treated with the prestige it deserves. The story leading to this point has been mediocre, but I think they can bring it to the next level with a good match and I see this feud continuing.

Prediction: Christian defeats Cody Rhodes via pinfall to retain his Championship.

Sheamus vs. Dolph Ziggler for the World Heavyweight Championship: Dolph Ziggler has a great opportunity here. It was unfortunate for Alberto Del Rio that he had to be pulled from this match due to a concussion, but I don’t think the outcome of that match was really in question, so the last minute addition of Ziggler does create some intrigue. Could this be finally be the moment where they let Ziggler punch through the glass ceiling? I certainly hope it is, as I think there is a lot more fun to be had in having Sheamus chase after a slimy heel champion than there is in having him go up against poorly built up challengers month after month. I could be very wrong here, but I see Ziggler winning in an upset in some cheap fashion.

Prediction: Dolph Ziggler defeats Sheamus via pinfall to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

C.M. Punk vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Kane in a Triple Threat for the WWE Championship: This has been the most intriguing storyline in the company for the entire month. AJ and Kane have really destroyed my expectations and added a lot of interest to this feud. I’ve really enjoyed AJ specifically, just because it’s refreshing to see a female talent featured prominently in a major storyline, instead of relegated to second citizen status in the divas division as they so often are. Her “whack job” character has managed to create turmoil for all three men, and the WWE title really seems to hinge on her behavior during this match on PPV. I see her helping all three men at some point throughout the match, with her true motive being revealed at the conclusion. My prediction is that she has been working with Daniel Bryan this entire time, and will assist him in gaining hold of the WWE Championship.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan defeats C.M. Punk and Kane via shenanigans to win the WWE Championship.

John Cena vs. Big Show in a Steel Cage Match: Well, they really pulled out all the stops for this one. We have McMahon at ringside, and John Laurnitis and John Cena’s jobs on the line depending on the outcome. I give WWE credit for trying, but nothing really has managed to excite me about seeing the core premise of Big Show and John Cena having a match on PPV. If there was a way to make this match end in a double DQ, so we could see both Cena and Laurinitis temporarily removed from television, I think that would be the best result I could hope for. I don’t say that in an attempt to be rude or insulting, I genuinely think that both of those guys need some time off of television, and this match gives them the out they need to make it happen. I really don’t think Cena gets any time off of TV due to injuries as suspension, but a man can dream.

John Cena defeats Big Show and John Laurinitis gets fired.
