8/14 Barnett's WWE SummerSlam Preview and Predictions: I run down the entire card featuring John Cena, C.M. Punk, Randy Orton, Christian, and more!
Aug 14, 2011 - 06:12 PM |
By Jake Barnett
I have no foreknowledge of anything that will happen at the PPV. These are just my best guesses based on my interpretation of WWE storylines.
C.M. Punk vs. John Cena to unify their WWE Championships with Triple H as Special Referee: I’m convinced at this point we are going to see a major character shift in Triple H at the conclusion of this PPV. He hasn’t really articulated a vision for the WWE since he took over as COO, and I think this character shift tonight will be explained by that articulation as soon as Monday Night. The match itself has a long way to go to top their match at MITB, but I think they can come very close tonight. Triple H can add drama to the match throughout by teasing being on one side or the other, and that can keep a match from looking too much like the previous one and losing the crowd. My Prediction is that we see John Cena win after some very shady stuff from Triple H, and the show concludes with everybody thinking Cena is on his way to a heel turn. John Cena wins after interference, and the feud continues.
Christian vs. Randy Orton in a No Holds Barred match for the World Heavyweight Championship: I see this match being a quality match, just like all the others in this series, that ends with a screwy finish. If that sounds like a repeat of this entire feud since Christians heel turn, you would be correct. The difference this time, I think, will be a clean Christian victory after his backup bails him out. Who will that be? I have no idea, and that’s a good thing. Christian defeats and retains his title after some shenanigans.
Sheamus vs. Mark Henry: I think we are going to see one of the better big man matches in recent memory when these two guys lock horns on Sunday. Henry has been on point lately, both with his work on the microphone, and whenever he has been in the ring. Both of these guys have been on big rolls lately, and I don’t think it ends for either guy here. Mark Henry and Sheamus fight to some sort of disqualification where they end up brawling with weapons.
Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix for the Divas Championship: I don’t think it makes much sense for this to be anything less than a massacre. WWE needs Beth with that title, because the bimbo act played by most WWE divas is much more endearing when there is a monster to demolish them. Beth destroys Kelly and we move towards the eventual Beth vs Natalya feud.
Daniel Bryan vs. Wade Barrett: Well, these guys have been stalking each other for a month now, so I was excited to hear that there would be a match between them at this PPV. Both guys deserve to be moving their way up the card, and this is a great opportunity for them to deliver on a major PPV and start that process. I expect this match will get some length and Bryan will squeak out a win in what I hope is the first of a good series of matches. Daniel Bryan wins by submission, but Barrett looks strong throughout.
