8/2 WWE Smackdown/ECW in Hyannis, Mass.: A Triple Threat match to become No. 1 contender for the World Hvt. Championship, Ricky Steamboat wrestles, William Regal mocks the fans for chanting "USA" for a Canadian wrestler
Aug 3, 2009 - 09:43 AM

WWE Smackdown/ECW house show
Hyannis, Massachusetts in the Melody Tent
Report by Dot Net reader Mike

Howard Finkel was the announcer for the sold out show.

1. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Shelton Benjamin. The crowd was really behind Benjamin who got on the mic and said, "I don't need you all jumping on my bandwagon." Yoshi got the pin after the Chop Kix (don't know what his finisher is called).

2. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat pinned Drew McIntyre. Great offense by Steamboat, who got the win after he hit his diving cross-body on a standing McIntyre.

3. Tyler Reks defeated Paul Burchill. No one gave a damn. Reks kept giving his "Hang 10" hand gesture. He ended up pinning Burchill for the win after a springboard moonsault.

4. Tyson Kidd (w/David Hart Smith) defeated Jimmy Wang Yang. A distraction from DHS allowed Kidd to get the roll-up.

5. John Morrison defeated Mike Knox. Amazing athleticism by Morrison who won with the Starship Pain.

6. Melina over Katie Lea Burchill. Melina screamed and did the Last Call on Burchill for the win.

7. Christian defeated William Regal to retain the ECW Championship. Regal got the most heat of the night. The crowd kept chanting "Regal Sucks." Regal got on the mic and said, "How can I suck? I'm not American." Then a USA chant broke out. I said to my girlfriend that this didn't make sense since Christian is Canadian. Regal then got on the mic and said, "How bloody stupid can you all be? He's (Christian's) from bloody Canada." Christian won with a roll-up.

Smackdown general manager Theodore Long came out and said he had a great main event set up. He said he wanted it to be in Hyannis, He said there would be a Triple Threat Match for the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. The crowd went crazy since this would mean that the unadvertised Jeff Hardy would be making an appearance. The, the referee in the ring made Long aware of his mistake and he said, "My bad. It'll be a No. 1 Contender's Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. Poor Teddy Long, he had two lines to remember and he couldn't get that right.

8. C.M. Punk defeated Kane and The Great Khali in Triple Threat match to become the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk kept walking outside the ring and didn't want to fight the two monsters. Kane and Khali gave Punk a double chokeslam at one point. Punk won after Kane and Khali battled and he snuck in for the pin. Kane tried to attack Khali with a chair after the match, but Khali hit it way and used the chair on Kane. Finkel said goodnight.

Most Cheers:
1. Christian
2. Great Khali
3. John Morrison
4. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat
5. Shelton Benjamin

Most Heat:
1. William Regal
2. " "
3. " "
4. " "
5. " "
